  1. Windows Snap Assist 50% Chance of Success When Using "Win+Arrow"

Looks like this has been a bug since 2015 or 2016, but I only experienced it in the last 18 months. I found around 10 posts on the forum with similar problems, and no solution. When using the "Windows Key + Arrow Key" to snap a window to the right side of my 4k monitor, it correctly snaps about 50% of the time, and "gets very close" the other 50% of the time. I normally "snap right" and then either "snap up" or "snap down" to split the right side of my screen into a top half and bottom half. However, for the 50% of the time that snap fails, the "snap down" option minimizes the window, so I need to dig through the 10+ entries on the taskbar to find it again. Since this then has another 50% chance of failing the next time, it can get really, really frustrating.

Surprisingly, "snap up" works correctly 95% of the time with the other 5% snapping the window to full-screen. I work on spreadsheets and legal documents, so the quick ability to snap is critical for me to be effective.

Some things I learned from experience and the forum posts:

1 Large monitors seem to cause trouble I'm using a 4k TV... I think everyone on earth should do this too!!!.

2 Taskbar on the side of the screen appears to be another factor which causes trouble.

3 Differing monitor sizes may contribute. I'm working from a laptop with a 1080 screen, but I only display work on the single 4k TV. Other users have commented about problems with the secondary monitor being larger than the primary.

4 If I reset the "Scale and layout" in Display Settings, snap works correctly 100% of the time. When I get really frustrated, I run a macro I created to change the scaling from 125% to 150% and back to 125% thanks AutoHotKey!!! which solves the problem. Unfortunately, I need to move/minimize a number of windows to click on the desktop to run the macro. And COME ON MICROSOFT!!! If a middle-aged metallurgical engineer with no programming knowledge can find a way to "macro-fix" this, it shouldn't take your software engineers more than 15 minutes to solve it...

Looks like a 5+ year bug on Win7 and Win10. I'd be happy to test options and suggestions, but I can't do driver updates or anything which requires admin access, since the laptop is owned, managed, and SEVERELY security-controlled by my employer. Figures. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for reading, and have a wonderful day!

    :)

    Snap Assist

    Hi Cory,

The Snap Assist allows you to juggle apps, arrange open windows, resize windows by simply dragging and dropping them to the edges of the screen. If you don't want to get a quarter screen snap, you can change the settings of Snap Assist by follow the steps below:

    • Open the Settings app
    • Click System.
    • Click Multitasking.
    • You can turn off some of the option of Snap Assist on this window.

If you want to disable Snap Assist, you can turn off Arrange windows automatically by dragging them to the sides or corners of the screen.

Should you have further queries, feel free to post it.

  3. Snap suddenly not working with win-key + arrow key

So snap has suddenly stopped working with win-key + arrow key, it still works when dragging the window to the edge/top of the screen using the mouse. The keys still work individually (arrow keys still scroll in web pages and win key still opens start menu)
but no in combo. I've checked in the settings and control panel and snap is enabled (also when I snap by dragging with the mouse the snap suggestions do not pop up like they used to even though the setting is again enabled.

It just stopped working about ten minutes ago and it's already infuriating since I'm at uni and often need multiple windows open.

    Thanks for your help.

Windows Snap Assist 50% Chance of Success When Using "Win+Arrow"

    Snap / Snap Assist isues

I am not at all sure Snap & Snap Assist are working as they should. I find it rather confusing to sort out what to expect, having read some articles about it (here and elswhere.)

The most obvious sign is that there is no transparent overlay. I have never seen this phenomenon even when trying to activate it deliberately. Next, am I right in thinking Snap should mean that adjacent Windows are precisely 'butted' against one another? Sometimes I get this, at other times they overlap. The 'thumbnail list apears sometimes, not always and when I open a fresh Window from a thumbnail it does not Snap into place, often it overlaps and I have to adjust it manually. When I move a Window to left, right or a corner nothing happens, it just keeps on moving until it goes off the screen.

I use a combination of mouse and the Windows arrow keys. The arrow key method often Snaps when the mouse does not.

I have all the Snap options set to 'on' in Settings.

I anticipated I might have some problems with Snap as my maximum display is1280 X 80, ie. les than the recomended resolution, but I have no difficulty displaying multiple Windows (4).
