    Hardware specs:
    Intel 2600CP board
    Dual Xeon E5-2650 v2
    128 GB ECC RAM
    Asus Xonar DSX audio card

    SATA SSDs
    GeForce GTX 1080
    VIA-something USB 3 controller.

Okay, so I'm using windows 10 on PC in question for 2+ years, used Windows 7 before.

I do not remember which build I've installed initially, but it was able to update several times. Minor updates install correctly and there's no sizeable problems with running OS. Drivers update correctly, adding and removing hardware is not a problem.

Said installation couldn't update to version 1909 for a year. It gets update files, reboots to install them and then either BSODs either spinner stops at 48%. Then after reboot failed update is rolled back and OS functions correctly till next time Windows get an idea to reboot to try installing again and again.

A couple of days ago I decided to help it by just installing a copy of latest windows 10 build from scratch and installed 20H2. Right after installation it pulled nvidia drivers from WU and started installing them, which finished in system freeze after screen blinking. Long story short:

Windows builds 20H2 and 2004 install correctly, but when i try installing GPU or chipset driver system hangs, image freezes, motherboard detects uncoverable CPU error. USB and audio controller drivers install without problems.

Windows build 1809 if installed anew, works as expected, same drivers install and work. If i try updating it using WU to 1909 - it cant, update progress stucks at 48%.

Old 1809 installation that worked for years still does work i left it unchanged on other drive if i boot it.

Drivers in question are most recent, designed for Windows 10 and are downloaded from official sources nvidia / intel. Those which are downloaded automatically from WU do BSOD too.

    So my questions are:
    1. Any ideas on solving driver installation problem?

Please dont bother copypasting generic advices like "reboot, reinstall, run troubleshooter or memtest", i've tried that. Test sequence is "unplug internet, install os from flash drive, install nvidia driver from flash drive, observer freeze". Witn internet pluggesd freeze just happens faster, because OS tries to download drivers itself without asking if i'm interested in that, but that's another quiestion we're not covering here. Hardware is in working order, it's a server board with numerous selftests and watchdogs, memory is error-corrected, and other version of windows works without question under heavy load.

    2. If no ideas on point 1 - is there a somehow legal option to disable nags about "feature updates" and, much required, sudden reboots when os senses no one using PC? I'm okay with using version 1809, i can manage my security myself and not that interested in new features like redesigned control panel or hyper-v breaking virtualbox and other innovations.

    :)

  2. Ahhzz Win User

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

i dont think anyone here understands what your asking either when its nearly a 90% english dominated Tech forum.
    Step 1
    reinstall windows from scratch
    Step 2
install all drivers from the cd that came with the god damn motherboard *common sense*
    Step 3
    update windows
    Step 4
install misc etc crap like flash java etc etc
    Step 5
    Install GPU drivers
    Step 6
go back to using your pc without issue.
