    flashing screen on extend

i know this question has been asked a million times. and i've read the million threads. none have helped. i will break down the situation with system details, the issue, and what ive tried.

I'm running windows 10 64bit, IntelR CoreTM i5-6400 CPU @ 2.70GHz with 16gb ram. winver is version 20H2 build 19042.746, Nvidia GTX960, i have 2 monitors, a DELL s2409w and samsung L24t40 : on duplicate they are fine, one view 1 it works, on view 2 it works. when i duplicate though, that's when I have the issues.

initially they were connected with 1 HDMI and 1 DVI to VGA adaptor. seeing as the adaptors can cause issues, the screens are now connected with 1 HDMI-HDMI and 1 Display port - hdmi. the issue persisted.

once it goes into extend, it will take about 3 seconds, and start flashing about once every second. in the moment, both back grounds go back, but any windows open remain visible. also, the task bar at the bottom of the screen is still there, but none of the icons show. the cursor will take the appearance of the loading wheel when i hover over it. kinda looks like it making explorer crash, but taskbar comes back to normal once i revert back to duplicate.

in the windows display setting, under duplicate, there is a screen showing [12] . i dont know if this is normal under duplicate, but it doesnt show 2 screens. in the Nvidia control panel, i do see the dell and samsung monitors. in duplicate, it would seem like one screen is acting like master, and the other like the slave, only one of the screens can change settings, the others are greyed out. when in extend. i cant modify setting in Nvidia control panel. note that both are set to native 1920x1080 @ 60 hz refresh rate. on win control panel, i can confirm same resolution, but cant see to find refresh rate.

    i tried:

    -changing cables HDMI cables

-trying different cables cancelling the vga dvi adaptor i had,

    - trying a 3rd monitor i have lying around

    - swapping cables ie plugging the samsung with HDMI and display prt and vice versa

    - updated windows

-updated display adaptor from device manager

    - did clean install of Nvidia drivers i downloaded from their website

    - uninstalled nvidia driver and reinstalled it from device manager

    - tried plugining, unplugging, and jiggling the cables

    - turning on and off monitors

    - turning on and off monitors while trying difference combinations of plugging and plugining each screen at time

-tried unpluggining screen while in extend mode and replugging it in

    - tried SFC scannow, didnt detect errors.

    - uninstalled icloud

    - uninstalled adobe

    - tried both manually and automatically choosing source on displays themselves.

    - i do not use norton, and have never installed norton using bitdefender

    - i do have an error message from IShelper.exe

    - i do not have intel driver appearing in in device manager, only Nvidia and Citrix.

    - in nvidia panel, under adjust desktop color, i changed content type reported to desktop programs for both monitors.

im out of options.. i tried EVERYTHING other than DSIM /restore health. im concerned using that option as if it went wrong, i am not confident id be able to fix it and i absolutely need my PC my internet connection can be unstable

    :)

    flashing screen on extend

    Extended screen with wndows 10

I have a new HP laptop and an LG external monitor and want to extend the screen.
As a starting point, I tried to extend the screen just using the laptop and the monitor.
I pressed the windows icon and "P".
Four options appear. "PC screen only", "duplicate" and "second screen only" all work.
However, "extend" option appears not to work.
The monitor has the expected image (if a website is opened) and an operational mouse pointer. However, the laptop screen shows none of the webpage and shows only the wallpaper image present when the device is turned on. The mouse pointer can be moved between screens.
The web page is certainly not extended across two screens.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks Michael.
