Every time MS Edge updates, the firewall needs to ask permission again

    hello

very often when there is an update to edge, for instance there is one now from 88.0.705.50 then the Win10 firewall will ask again to authorise the access outgoing, that happens i think because the folder of the new version where Edge lives has changed, namely with the version number of the new version.

so i had before \Microsoft\Edge\Application\88.0.705.50 and now it has just been installed to \Microsoft\Edge\Application\88.0.705.53 which means the firewall will soon request me to approve again as if it's a new program but it's just the new version.

Chrome updates a similar manner but this does not influence the firewall having to request this every single time.

The executable file of chrome is within the /chrome and not within the folder with the release number.

on edge instead, you have msedge.exe and also msedge.exe within each folder with the version number.

my shortcut is of course the version OUTSIDE the folder with the release number, it will still pop the firewall.

    Gabrio

  3. No permissions

    Hi,

I would suggest you to right click on the user's folder for your profile and check if the permissions shows as "read only'. If this is the case, it might be causing the issue. In this case, I would suggest you to go to C:\User folder, right click on the
folder with your username and follow these steps:

    • Open the properties of the main user profile folder where the files are located (such as Documents, Pictures, etc).
    • Go to the Security tab and click Advanced.
    • Check the box at the bottom of this window. It is labeled "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" and then click Ok.
This does a one-time action that replaces the security on all the files/subfolders. It’s one-time, so you won’t find that box checked if you peek at it later. Try these steps and let us know the results for further assistance.

    Windows Firewall blocking MS Edge

I asked this question on the Edge forum too, but I have additional questions about this blocking thing

    A. Uh, why do keep getting a message that Windows Firewall is blocking "some aspects" of Microsoft Edge. I am using beta now, but it did it with the plain old "new Edge" as well.

Don't departments talk to each other???

    B. I get this message about Amazon Music Helper too. Why isn't there a link that tells you WHAT aspects are being blocked? One might not care.

    C. I went into Control Panel/Firewall/Allow Programs and added both Edge and Music Helper. But every time I reboot, those additions go away. Why??
