Windows 10: Sudden data exhaustion

Hello

I have been using hotspot from my mobile to connect to the internet in my laptop. The connection is metered. Yet, 2gb data gets exhausted in just 10 minutes!! All the automatic update settings have also been turned off. But the problem is not solved. Can you please tell me a solution to this issue.

Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region


I got these suggestions from the Microsoft Community forum.No. 1 worked for me:

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
3. Select add someone else on this PC.
4. Enter a user name and hit next.
5. Click on Finish.
6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.

 

My internet data gets exhausted too quickly

Before we proceed any further, let us know the mode of connection you are using to connect to internet.

Now, before we can conclude that which Windows applications or software is using your internet bandwidth.

I suggest you to View Network Data Usage in Windows 10, and check if the ones you are referring to has consumed considerable data. follow the below steps.

• Open the Settings app, and click/tap on the Network & Internet icon.
• Click on Data usage on the left side. You will now see a general overview of the network data usage from the last 30 days on your PC.
• Click on the Usage details link on the right side under
  Overview.
• You will now see how much network data has been used by each app from the last 30 days.
  

Next, to view real-time network usage via the Task Manager access the Task Manager via keyboard shortcut (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) or type “task manager” in the Start Menu search box.

In the Task Manager select the “App history” tab. There you’ll find two columns related to data consumption: “Network” and “Metered network”.

Now, to address the issue you are facing, follow the below steps and check if it helps.

(However, this applies to non wired mode of internet connection.

Open Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi, connect to the metered connection, maybe a Wi-Fi hotspot you’re tethering from your mobile, then click Advanced
options, and toggle Set as metered connection to On.
