Merging Drive Partitions

Merging Drive Partitions d4b9a0e4-029f-41d1-ba77-3fed7c48b190?upload=true.png I cloned my internal 500 GB hard drive to an external 2TB hard drive. My intend to format the internal drive, put in an enclosure, and use as an external drive. I plan to put the 2TB dive in the computer as its internal drive.

Attached is a copy of my drives as shown in disk management. I have a 1.36TB partition that is empty. I want to merge it with the c drive to expand it the entire 1.36 TB and literally delete the H drive.

Any information on how this can be done would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

- press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
- diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
- list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
- select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
- clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
- create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
- exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
- click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

Cant merge Partitions

This.

Open an admin command prompt.

type

Code: diskpart
then

Code: list disk
then find your drive (look at the size of the drives listed)

then type

Code: sel disk x
(where 'x'x is your disks number)

then type

Code: clean
then in disk management (so you can work with a GUI) just right click on the now blank HDD and make a new partition.

Disk management can't merge two partition. (One of them was a linux based partition)

Hi Kevin,

There are different factors that can contribute as to why you not able to merge or extend the space used by a specific partition on the hard drive. one possible cause could be due to the unallocated space having a different file format. For us to resolve
your concern, kindly answer the questions below:

• Was the option "extend volume" greyed out?
• Were there any error messages when you attempted to extend or merge the unallocated space?
• What file system did you use when you formatted the partition?
• Which version and build of Windows 10 is installed on your computer?

As an initial recommendation, you can have a look at the post of Waido2525 in this
thread. His answer received 191 votes from people that have resolved their
issue following the suggested steps.

We look forward to your response to our queries.
