  1. Windows didn’t load correctly, but only after first attempt following hard restart

I’ve been experiencing an issue over the past day or so where my Dell Inspiron laptop will lag out and freeze*, resulting in me having to hard restart it. Upon the first restart, I get a screen saying windows didn’t load correctly, but after shutting down my laptop and powering it on again, it worked just fine.

After looking up this issue following the first occurrence, I tried running the advanced startup diagnostic tool the second time it happened, and was told after a bit that startup repair couldn’t repair my PC. Once again, upon shutting down my laptop and powering it on again, Windows loaded up fine, and is already updating Steam as I’m typing this.

If both times that it has occurred so far have been resolved simply by powering the device off and on again after I get the error message, should I be concerned, attempt to recreate the conditions that caused the issue* a third time and use one of the other advanced options, or just proceed as I have so far should it occur again? I’d like to know in the event that I need to have my laptop serviced by Dell before returning to campus next Saturday.

*Now that I’ve gotten the main question out of the way, onto the specifics of the conditions that caused the issue. In both instances, the issue occurred while running Minecraft Java 1.12.2 with version 8.1.2 of the Pixelmon mod while connected to a friend’s server. At some point, the game began to lag to the point of freezing, and after about a minute or so, both of my monitors went blank for a few minutes. After a while, my secondary monitor returned to how it was, but my main monitor, where I had the game on full screen, remained blank, and my device froze up completely, as evidenced by the clock on my secondary monitor being frozen at the time it returned to its previous state before it went blank. I know the obvious answer to the issue at this point would be to just stop connecting to the server, or just stop using the mod altogether, but it gives me a chance to connect and interact with a few friends I don’t really get to meet up with too much otherwise, and if the root of the issue is something separate from that which can be fixed, I’d rather go with that option.

  2. Recovery: Windows didn’t load correctly

    Hi,

Damages within the Windows Boot Configuration can be a possible cause why you are experiencing unexpected restart or reboot and getting the message "Windows didn’t load correctly". For us to provide an effective solution, we would need you to answer the
    following questions:

    • Which build, version and edition of Windows is installed on your computer?
    • What changes have you made to your computer before this issue occurred?

In the meantime, we suggest that you follow the troubleshooting steps provided by Yashwanth Kotakuri in this
    thread.

We are looking forward to your response.

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond Windows didn’t load correctly, but only after first attempt following hard restart :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.
