  1. USB not showing in boot menu. Help!

I want to install Windows 10 on a Samsung NP270E5G laptop (pretty old) with a brand new Kingston SSD inside (bye bye slow HDDs).

I tried everything: formatting my USB in FAT32, NTFS, using a USB to micro SD adapter and doing the same, changing every possible setting i could... But nothing.

I prepared the thumb stick with Media Creation Tool. Although i tried a diferent USB i'm 100% sure the first one works properly, because i used it for like 10 years and just some days ago i installed Windows 10 on a B550 mobo + SSD. The problem is about settings.

Another weird thing is that the laptop shows me "Windows Boot Manager" even if my SSD is new and empty.

I don't have the option to choose between "Legacy" or "UEFI" BIOS. The only (maybe useful) options i can change are "Fast BIOS Mode", "AHCI Mode Control", "USB S3 Wake-Up", "Secure Boot Configuration" > "Reset to Manufacturing Default" & "Change to Customized Signatures", "Boot Device Priority", "Secure Boot" and if disabled > "UEFI OS", "CSM OS" & "UEFI and CSM OS". I'm pretty sure everything else is useless.

I hope someone could help me because in a few days i have to do am important uni exam and this will be the only computer i will be able to use. Thank you in advance for the help and sorry for the long post!

    Help with USB Boot Image

Yes, I checked the box and showed it the folder where I unzipped the USB Image file. And then it started formatting the USB memory. Then after it completed I copied the rest of the files from the zip file over to the memory stick. Then tried to boot computer to the USB device. After restarting I press F12 to enter the boot menu and select USB Device from the list and it reads the USB memory cause the green light flashes but I get the Non-system disk error message.

    Help with USB Boot Image

I am trying to boot from my USB flash drive. I followed the instructions step for step that are in the article on this website. I downloaded the HP program and the USB Image zip file. I ran the HP flash program and pointed it to the folder where I unzipped the USB Image files to. I then copied all the files over to the USB memory stick as instructed. When I restart my computer and press F12 to go to the boot menu I have 3 options: SATA hard drive, CD-ROM drive, or USB Device. So I choose USB device and when it reads the USB memory stick all I get is the error "Non-system disk, replace and hit any key" Its like the USB memory is missing some system files or it doesnt have the master boot record or something. Somebody please HELP!!! I want to flash the bios in a new video card and I have to boot to DOS and I dont have a floppy drive and I have Win XP so a USB boot is probably the best option I have.

  4. USB not showing in boot menu. Help!

    No startup boot menu

    Hello Kimoefat,

Thank you for posting your concern in Microsoft Community and welcome to the Windows 10 Family.

As an initial recommendation, I would suggest you to access the System configuration utility and check if the Operating System installation path for Ubuntu exists. To do so, follow the below steps.

    • Type msconfig in the search bar and select System Configuration from the search results.
    • Select the boot tab in the System configuration console to check if the installation path for Ubuntu exists.
If it exists, next logical step is to check if the boot menu time out has been set to 0, which results in Boot menu not showing up.

The boot menu time-out determines how long the boot menu is displayed before the default boot entry is loaded. It is calibrated in seconds. To change the boot menu time-out, use the Bootcfg
/timeout switch. Valid values are from 0 through 999. You cannot use Bootcfg to set an indefinite time-out.

You can run the following Run command line to set the boot menu time-out accordingly. To do so, follow the below steps.

    • Press Windows key + X, select
Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt

    • Type in the following command: bootcfg /timeout 10

      timeout 10
will set the time frame to 10 seconds
However, if the Boot path for Ubuntu does not exist in the boot menu of System Configuration utility, I would suggest you to check if the Ubuntu is overridden by the Windows installation or if the Ubuntu installation files are corrupted.

Hope the above information is helpful. If you need further information, feel free to write to us and we would be happy to help you.

    Thank You.
