BSOD, no dump file, no report from mdsched.exe, even in safe mode

    Hello,

I am desperately trying to find away to solve my crashes on my system:

    Lenovo ThinkPad P51s

    System SKU LENOVO_MT_20HC_BU_Think_FM_ThinkPad P51s
    BIOS Version/Date LENOVO N1VET55W 1.45 , 2020-11-04

    SMBIOS Version 3.0
    Processor IntelR CoreTM i7-7600U CPU @ 2.80GHz, 2904 Mhz,2 Cores, 4 Logical Processors
Installed RAM 16.0 GB 15.8 GB usable
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
    Edition Windows 10 Pro
    Version 20H2
    OS build 19042.804
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.551.0

I have occasional BSODs since a fewmonths. Sometimes after a crash, the system gets into the boot menu. In theboot menu I have tried actually every item, but it ultimately always revertsinto the boot menu. In order to restart, I need to hold power button andreboot. Sometimes I even had to eject the battery and unplug in order to emptythe cache as the system was stuck in an endless cycle. These breakdowns are randomand infrequent, I have the feeling as if they only occur when I have the systemrunning while plugged in over the ACDC adapter original part from Lenovo, orwhen on battery power – I use a thinkpad thunderbolt3 docking station at mydesk, where the power supply comes over the usb-c port. At least I have notwitnessed any breakdowns until now.

Now to what I have tried to find thecause and what did not help:

    1. I never get anything back from thesystem failure debugging dump file, i.e. there is none written: I have triedautomatic memory dump and small memory dump – no results. I have checked the'write an event to the system log' and 'automatic restart'.

    2. I have run checkdisk without anyalerts all seems ok.

    3. I have run the mdsched.exe from ‘SafeMode with Command Prompt’ – no report was generated at all although the memorycheck was completed.

    4. According to Lenovo’s vantage checkall drivers are up to date.

I am out of ideas what to do to findout what the problem is and would be grateful for help.

    :)

  2. BSOD and Inability to reboot to safe mode

    • Dell Latitude Laptop running Windows 10 1809 64 bit -
    • Went to shut down laptop last night (12 May around 11:30 UT) and immediately went to a BSOD KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR and tried to restart.
    • Ended up in the Windows Recovery Environment suggesting a restart. Selecting restart just put me back in the Recovery Environment again - endless loop
    • Full power down and restart is the same.
    • In the Recovery Environment, selecting "Uninstall latest quality update" works but makes no difference.
    • "Uninstall latest feature update" fails. Can someone explain the difference between Quality and Feature updates?
    • "Reset my PC" with "Keep my files" fails.
    • Selecting the "Startup Settings' option and prompting a restart to access Safe Mode allows me to select a Safe Mode restart but then it retriggers the BSOD (same one) and dumps me back in the Recovery Environment ... I can't get to Safe Mode.
    • Basically, I am locked out of the machine.
I am suspicious that this may be related to the KB4551853 update (don't know the exact time of release) and that the BSOD has happened when you would normally get the "Update and Shutdown" banner. A complete rebuild
with the loss of all my files is not the absolute end of the world but would make me REALLY unhappy. Any help to avoid that would be appreciated.

  3. BSOD display. Used verifier. Got dump files ready to be checked.

Thank you for providing us the dump files on your online storage. As of the moment we're still reading the dump files. For clarification, may we know the following:

    • Have you tried to boot the PC in safe mode?
    • Aside from changing RAM, what troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
    • Can you tell us the make and model of your PC?

We'll be waiting for your response.

  4. BSOD, no dump file, no report from mdsched.exe, even in safe mode

Password not accepted in Safe mode

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community forum.

Have you tried all the above steps suggested by Sangeeta Sarkar on September 13, 2015.

I would suggest you to provide some information to help you better.

    • Are you trying to login the Microsoft account or the Local account in safe mode?
    • Did you try with only safe mode or safe mode with networking?
    • What is the critical error you are getting?

If you are using Windows 10. To go to safe mode you have to follow the below steps.

If you are able to go to login screen in normal mode try the below steps to go to safe mode with networking.

    • At the login screen click on the power symbol.

    • Hold SHIFT + Click Restart.

    • After restarting your system, select the Troubleshoot option.

    • Select advanced options under
      Troubleshoot screen.

    • Click on Startup Settings.

    • Click Restart and follow the onscreen steps to go to
Safe Mode with networking and check if you are able to login.

    [*]
Please get back with more information, we will be glad to help you further.
