Windows 10: How to disable the touchpad on the HP envy x360

How can I disable the touchpad on an HP envy x360 15m-cn0011dx?

It is easy to find the right dialog to disable the touchpad on my other HP machines but on this one I haven't discovered where. I also have a zBook 15 and elitebook 840 G2 so I am somewhat familiar with how Windows 10 looks on HP machines.

Edit: I just realized I might have to install some HP specific drivers before the right dialog can be found. I will update this post or post a followup if I resolve it.

Hi, not all laptops necessarily have a ready means of doing this. This is one of those 'it depends' situations.
Considering Synaptics drivers for example- there are at least three versions which can look completely different.

This tutorial attempts to address this:

In my case I had no option to do so. I did not have this in Settings:




I tried installing a precision touchpad driver, but this was not helpful and removed many options.
To my surprise, after I uninstalled it to revert to the Lenovo version of Synaptics, I found the options in Settings remained. (See comment after the tutorial).

There is a precision driver there. Best to use the driver from your manufacturer.

If nothing else works, there is a free 3rd party utility that worked for me before I encountered the above: Touchpad blocker.

 

How to disable the touchpad on the HP envy x360

I installed the Synaptics driver 19.5.35.41 Rev.D. This was obtained from the HP website. This is the newest one.

After it installed the message was "not supported for this operating system". That's strange because the driver is described as suitable for Windows 10. The touchpad and mouse dialogs still appear to be lacking a Synaptics dialog which is where I would expect to find the "disable" touchpad option.
