Putting into sleep from login screen without Hello signing in instead

Conditions: Hello is enabled. Automatically logging in is disabled, so when Hello recognizes a face the user still has to clear the login screen by a click or swipe.

User signs out and would like to put the machine into sleep mode. There is no apparent hotkey to do so, so the only way is to click the power icon on the login screen and select Sleep. But clicking the power icon clears the login screen and Hello immediately signs the user in.

I would like not to disable Hello, but the workflow has to allow the user to sign out and put the machine to sleep. Can this be done, other than by holding a hand in front of the camera so Hello doesn't see a face?

    :)

  2. Unable to put computer to sleep, the Sign In screen immediately comes up searching for my face with Windows Hello

On my Razer laptop with the new 1165G7 processor, I have my power button set to put my computer to sleep when I press it. However, when I do, the screen goes black but then immediately the Sign in screen comes back up and the camera is searching for my
face to sign in. I can press the button again and the same thing happens over and over. The same thing happens if I click the windows icon, select power, and then select "Sleep".

Also, if I close the lid which is set to put the computer to sleep, the fans continue to run and the computer does not go to sleep.

Lastly, I have the screen set to turn off after 5 minutes on battery and go to sleep after 15. Plugged in option is set to turn the screen off after 10 minutes and go to sleep after 2 hours. However, as soon as the screen turns off after the 5 minutes,
it pops up the Sign in screen and sits there searching for my face again. Same thing whether on battery or plugged in.

So essentially, I can't put my computer to sleep, or even have it turn the screen off after inactivity properly.

The only work around I have found to get it to go to sleep is to disable the Windows Hello face recognition sign in, and instead go with a PIN, and then change the "Require sign-in" option for "If you've been away, when should Windows require you to sign
in again?" to NEVER. I have to disable to Windows Hello first because when it is enabled, the option is grayed out and says "Windows Hello is preventing some options from being shown". The problem with this method is that if I ever lost my laptop or it was
stolen, anybody can freely get in to it since it will not ask for a pin.

Finally, I never have the "When PC wakes up from sleep" option available to me no matter what I try to do under the Require Sign-in setting.

  3. Windows Hello & Pin Login NOT displaying on Login Screen

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Sorry for the delay in response.

I appreciate your effort in trying to fix the issue with the missing features on login screen.

    1. Which security software is installed on your device?
    2. Is your device connected to domain network?

Please try the below suggested steps and check if the required sign in options are available from login screen.

Enable sign-in using PIN from group Policy editor

    1. Open Local Group Policy Editor. To do so, type gpedit.msc
in the run command (Windows + R key).
    2. Navigate to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon.
    3. In the right pane, double click on Turn on convenience PIN sign-in policy
      to edit it.
    4. Select Enabled option from Turn on convenience PIN sign-in window.
    5. Click on Apply, OK and close the window.
    6. Restart the device and check if the sign-in using PIN is available on the login screen.

Enable sign into Windows 10 using Biometrics from Local Group Policy editor

    1. Open Local Group Policy Editor. To do so, type gpedit.msc
in the run command (Windows + R key).
    2. Navigate to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Biometrics.
    3. In the right pane of Biometrics, double click on Allow users to log on using biometrics.
    4. Select Enabled option from Allow users to log on using biometrics window.
    5. Click on Apply, OK and close the window.
    6. Restart the device and check if the sign in using Biometrics is available on the login screen.

Hope it helps. Get back to us for further assistance on this issue. We will be happy to help you.

    Lock vs Login screen screenshot

    Hi Josey -

Thanks for the quick reply. While your suggestion does change the sign in process, it doesn't address the differing screenshot question. Following the steps doesn't make the login screenshot the same as the Lock screenshot. As I mentioned, I can't even find the screenshots being used for both screens.

Still looking a solution to this. Open to any other suggestions you might have to the problem. Thanks!
