  1. Unable to set a password

I have a Windows 10 Pro PC that I'd set up without a password or a Windows account. I do not use or want Windows Hello on any of my devices, but for some unknowable and idiotic reason, the Windows Store app INSISTS that I have a Hello-enabled PIN if I want to enable family sharing from my own Windows account. You know, you have to log into the family member's PC's Windows Store with your own Microsoft Account credentials so that you can share the software with them. Only, apparently you can only do this if you are Hello-enabled. This is stupid, stupid, stupid, Microsoft. STUPID.

Anyway, so now, to facilitate family sharing, I am forced to set up Windows Hello somewhere. Back to my unprotected PC, because I'm not changing the sign-in settings on my main PC. No, and HELL NO. I go to the Accounts app and add and log into my Microsoft account. It asks me to create a PIN. I create a PIN. Not a Windows Hello PIN. Just a normal Windows sign-on PIN.

I go to the Sign-in options page to set up a Windows Hello PIN. I notice am unable to activate any of the Windows Hello features because I apparently do not have a local password. I know this, because it fricking says so on the screen:

<side note: I'd love to upload a picture, but the upload functionality isn't working either. ****.>

So, take my word for it. Windows says: "Your account doesn't have a password. You must add a password before you can use other sign-in options." Fair enough, I guess. So, I click the button that says "Add". So far, Windows and I are on the same page. We both know I need to add a password.

Great, now I get a bright blue screen that says, and I swear this is no lie, it says: "Change your password". No, really. Change. I am instantly alerted to Windows and my divergence in common purpose. And then it alarmingly and cheerfully continues with "First, confirm your current password." It helpfully provides a field for my "Current password" too. Windows and I stare at each other. It blinks its cursor at me, unmoved by my utter lack of a password. Undeterred, I clicked Next, incorrectly assuming Windows wants my non-existent and obviously blank password.

But no! Lo and hark! Windows retorts with: "This is a required field." That's it. No way forward and no way back. Windows and I are at an impasse. It refuses to accept a password I don't have and pretty soon the paradox of this situation is going to cause a vein in my head to explode.

    :)

  2. New FF - passwords

    Hi:

If that setting is already enabled, then I suggest as the next troubleshooting step might be Mozilla Safe Mode (not to be confused with Windows Safe Mode)):

Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode | Firefox Help

    • Please report back and let us know the outcome, as it will dictate the next steps.
    • Also: please tell us what AV/AM/firewall programs are you running on this system?

    Thanks,
    MM

That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.
