Windows 10: Win10 File Explorer suddenly only gives thumbnail windows, won't maximize

What I have done so far:


Virus/malware scan: All clean

Windows Updates: up to date

Ran DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth: "The restore operation completed successfully."

Ran sfc /scannow: "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."


Logged off, set up a new user account. File explorer works fine in that user account.

Back to my main user account, unpinned File Explorer from taskbar, cleared history.

Made sure display setting is set to "150% Recommended."


The only thing that has changed since yesterday is I used the Snipping Tool and printed a couple of snips to PDFs. That doesn't seem like it should create a problem. I am baffled. Any suggestions appreciated.

Windows Explorer crashes and thumbnails problem

Hi, I hope you can help me.
Windows Explorer is no longer showing thumbnails on files played by Windows Media Player. I've run cmd and regsvr32 shmedia.dll and regsvr32 shimgvw.dll. That seemed to solve the problem...but it created a different one. Now when I try to open a folder on an external hard drive it crashes. I read in an old 2008 post it was an avi file causing the problem and suggested the run cmd regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll. That solved the opening problem but recreated the thumbnail problem. Any help to achieve both functions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

 

Applications won`t maximize

Following a W10 update, applications only open as minimised on the taskbar and won`t maximize. I have tried closing them minimised but no good. Can anyone help ? thanks

 

File Explorer - Some PDF's show thumbnail image, some don’t

In Windows 10 File Explorer, I see thumbnails for a few of my pdf files but still see the generic Adobe pdf icon for most of them.

• In Windows 10 folder options, the checkbox for “Always show icons, never thumbnails” is unchecked.
• On the Adobe Reader preferences general tab, “Enable PDF thumbnails previews in Windows Explorer” is checked.
• Adobe Acrobat is set as my default PDF viewer.
• I have used Disk Cleanup to delete all my thumbnails to clear and rebuild the cache, yet the problem persists.

Any suggestions on how I can see all the pdf icons as thumbnails?

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (20.006.20034)
