Windows 10: Win10 colors anomaly. Background settings white appears as black

On Windows 10, in Settings > Personalization > Background, when I mouse over the white square, the caption says Black. Wha??


Probably related, in gmail open a message, the controls are either white foreground on white background or black on black. Big problem.


I originally tried gmail settings -- no apparent solution there. Then Chrome settings -- no apparent solution. Then Windows personalization colors settings -- no apparent solution. Windows personalization background settings -- Aha! EVEN THERE, the colors are screwed up in ways I can't fix, so I think that's where the problem is, if there is only one problem.

Change display background color from black to white

Open Start > Settings > Personalize > Background

Click in the Background list box

Choose Solid Color

Choose Custom color

Drag the slider to the extreme right

Choose White

Click Done

Choose White

The background color in some of my apps has changed to black with white fonts when it used to be white background with black fonts. The color icons are still color.

 

Background Color is black

The issue isn't a color inversion. However, the background to everything is black and purple, and the words are white. How can I change it back to its normal settings?
