Windows 10: using both ports on my Netgear C6230 (modem/router) with a switch

I bought a Netgear C6230 modem/router and a Netgear GS108Ev3 switch. The modem/router has two ports numbered 1 and 2. I was thinking I could use 1 for ports 2-4 on the switch and 5 for ports 6-8. The switch can do VLAN which I think means you can assign separate ports (1-8) to separate networks. I was going to use 1-4 for my main system and 5-8 for my NAS. It doesn't work when I set it up like this. Once the second network cable from the modem is plugged in to the switch, I can't find the switch.

Would I need a separate switch for port 2 from the modem?

anything that combines the modem and router into a single unit is called a Gateway.

Ill say however, I really do like Netgear products from Routers to Switches, I wonder how their ADSL 2 Gateways are.

 

Wireless modem router plus printer port ?

Hello guys.

Does it exist? A Wireless ADSL modem router with printer port all-in-one ?
If not, what is the best option to buy?
All 3 separated? Or Wireless router with printer server and a modem?

I would like an adsl modem suggestion that its very solid and doesnt freeze. Because I have a Dlink-500B and this thing freezes a lot.

And if you know any website that is specialized in modems please let me know.
