Windows 10: Insert Key Not Working, Icon Spacing Wrong.

Hi.


So I have been customizing my desktop and realized that I can't put icons close to the top or bottom of my screen on the desktop.


I have my screen scale at 124%.


I went into REGEDIT and modified the value of iconSpacing to -480 and iconVerticalSpacing to something around -790, but now the icons go a little below the taskbar.


I was trying to find the pixel location needed by dragging the icon up one pixel to figure out what value for this variable I need to choose. However, dragging the icon doesn't always change it by one pixel, so I was trying to drag the icons on the desktop using the keyboard keys to modify by one pixel only.


So I turned on MouseKeys. However, since modifying these values and turning on MouseKeys, my INSERT key is no longer working to enable and disable overtype for all of my applications. Also, my keyboard does not have the numLock function on my laptop.


I have a few questions.

1. How do I use the keyboard keys to DRAG the icons on my desktop by one pixel.

2. How do I get my Insert key to enable overtype again.

3. Why, after modifying the value of IconVerticalSpacing in the registry, does it work to allow me to space the icons closer to the taskbar, but I can't space them closer to the top of the screen? It seems like the values of the invisible window that the icons are drawn on do not match ScreenHeight - TaskbarHeight. Is it just that window or some value in the computer?

4. Do the registry variables IconSpacing and IconVerticalSpacing effect anything other than the spacing of the desktop icons on the screen?

5. When I program in Windows Forms, I use ScreenWidth and ScreenHeight to get the screen coordinates, but this does not make my Windows Form application full screen in the vertical direction. Are these variables in my system not correctly mapped to my screen?


Please don't just give me a generic response. Please answer all five of these questions.

Insert key not working in specific situations

For the first time, I have needed to use the Insert key on my laptop, but I have discovered that it doesn't work when I need it to work.

To be more specific, it doesn't work when I try to use it in Freeplane or Freemind (in both of which it causes a new child node to be placed on a mind map), or in MS Word (with writeover toggling enabled), but only when I am logged in to my laptop as me. When I am logged in as a different user and use the Insert key in Freeplane, it does work.

I have also checked the key using Keyboard Checker | The best online keyboard tester and that site tells me that the Insert key has been pressed. In other words the Insert key seems to work in a browser, but not in the other apps I have mentioned.

I have also been able to verify that Shift-Insert works in Freeplane (where it causes a parent node to be inserted). So something is happening with just plain Insert that doesn't happen with Shift-Insert.

I have tried logging out and logging in again.

I have also tried shutting down or disabling everything in the system tray that might possibly have hot keys assigned to it (such as WinCompose and Clipboard History), but that hasn't worked either.

I am using Windows 10 version 2004.

Can anyone help me to get my insert key working again?
