As a comment after some 30 + years of working with a PC. I am now attempting to understand File Management, formerly not given much attention. I understand the beauty of the Windows 10 system, especially if you grasp the intent of Quick Access. Now I know some of File Management, and have begun to employ Management. Moren with his File Management made easy Is a huge help.

My main concern is this. I have 2 TB of images and certainly could not place all of these in Pictures in a folder located in Quick Access. If I put all those images into pictures and they would be stored in the C drive, that drive would be too small.

I prefer to file manage and use all the Baracuda 2 tb files laying around and use those as external storage. One drive is a possibility with its placement in This PC s0 that drag and drop is nice even beautiful. Especially if I can create Folders, and sub folders in one drive. I have not explored the price yet, but the ability to file manage inside this PC is a serious consideration.

The beauty - preserve the C drive, and place all data, images, etc. else where untouched by a crash in the C drive or worse a failure to boot. I keep hands off the C drive and let Windows 10 do its necessary things with c drive.

    :)

  2. Quick Access bar

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

We would be glad to help you with the issue you are facing today. I understand the difficulty.

    Remove items from Quick access.

I would suggest you to follow the below steps.

    • Right click on the file or folder.
    • Select the option “unpin from the quick access”

To pin items to an item already on the quick access bar.

    Follow the below steps.

I would suggest you to create folder in the desktop screen & place all the files or folder which need to pin to the quick access.

    • Open the quick access.
    • Select the Desktop option.
    • Right click on the folder & select the option “pin to quick access”

Hope this helps in resolving the issue. If the issue persists, do get back to us. We will be happy to assist you.

    Thank you.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

Quick Access not searching Pictures folder

Summary, that last suggestion didn't work.

    • I moved the pictures to another folder temporarily.

    • Since there were no troubleshooting steps for this scenario, just for the heck of it, I ran through the restore steps. Copied some pictures into the Pictures folder, ran a Quick Access search and initial problem remains: Searching all of QA doesn't find any files in Pictures folder, running search on just the Pictures folder does. I want to run a global search and find matching files in any/all of the Documents, Music, Videos, and Pictures folders.
That article dates from 2015 and I'm guessing is out of date. I hope it didn't create potential future problems in my registry.

Bottom line: I'm still looking for a fix.
