    I just want a better understanding of 16-bit programs on Win10 64-bit

So I keep hearing time after time again that it's simply not possible to run 16-bit programs on 64-bit hardware with out emulators or big software modification. There's two games I'm specifically wondering about very specifically: Sims Tower and Pharaoh by Sierra Games. I have gotten these games to run perfectly on Windows 10 systems before. Specifically, I have gotten Pharaoh to run on a Ryzen 7 1800X based build and recently on a Core i9-10900K all simply just switching the compatibility mode to Win95 I have not nor plan to edit anything on my OS files. Is there something I'm missing or am I just getting lucky?

    :)

How do I run old 16 bit program on Windows 10 64 bit system

16 bit Windows programs do not run on x64 Windows since like Windows XP 64 bit. Apparently this is due to performance impacts required to support the 16 bit subsystem.

Interestingly, the same program will usually run on Windows 10 32 bit.

I understand the choice, but it is a little frustrating. I would like to have the choice of whether to run the 16 bit subsystem.

You need to install a VM of some kind to run these apps.
