  1. Wmiprvse causing occasional 100% CPU usage?

There seems to be a lot of info out there about this, but none of the scenarios seem to be a good match for what I'm experiencing, and the solutions all smack of "ensure the power cable is plugged in."

So here's my situation. Pretty much since the very first day I installed Win10, I've been experiencing a phenomenon where something will occasionally cap out the CPU to the point where apps visibly choke. Lasts for only half a second, a few times in a row. Waits a minute or two before doing it again. Repeats. Never stops. Task Manager identifies the culprit as Windows Explorer, and indeed, the longer I leave Windows Explorer running, the worst it grows, and it definitely gets worse the more folders I have open. Restarting Windows Explorer seems to reset the severity of the issue.

However, the problem can still occur even when Windows Explorer isn't running at all, which obviously suggests that it's something else.

Using Process Monitor's "Process Activity Summary" while Windows Explorer isn't running, a different suspect appears: Wmiprvse.exe. That's what led me to Google and my essentially failed efforts to see if there's any help to be found there. I don't have a problem where Wmiprvse is constantly using high CPU. It just comes in, as I said, once every minute, two minutes, three minutes, and uses high CPU for a few half-seconds in a row. That's it. Causes CPU-reliant apps (certain games) to choke in fits and starts for those moments.

None of several virus scanners or similar apps have found anything, so whatever is causing this is theoretically benign.

What I guess I need here is a way of finding the true culprit. I.e. Windows Explorer clearly wasn't the culprit in the first place, but the likes of Task Manager, ProcMon etc. are less than helpful in figuring this out, because evidently a dozen other things somehow get lumped under "Windows Explorer" or "Wmiprvse" without actually being those tasks.

Services and Controller app causing 100% CPU Usage

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that Services and Control app is causing 100% CPU Usage. I’ll help you with this issue.

Upon researching, I found that few of our customers were also facing High CPU usage with Services and Controller app and this was caused by an application named “Segurazo”, which turns out to be a third party anti-virus software.

They were able to resolve the issue by uninstalling the application. I would suggest you to refer the suggestions by

    cpu usage at 100%

CPU usage at 100% from start up for no apparently good reason. Service Host appears to be the problem but I cant narrow it down more than that at present.

    Any suggestions?

I am using Windows 10 full release version 64 bit.
