  1. Desktop and laptop have trouble sleeping

I have a custom-built desktop PC that runs Windows 10 and it won't go to sleep consistently. Namely, when I click Sleep from the start menu, it'll go to sleep, then wake up 5 seconds later. Sending it to sleep the second time keeps it asleep. What's frustrating is, it'll behave like this for like 6 weeks, then go to sleep on the first attempt for 4 weeks, then it'll be back to the 5-second wakeup nonsense. I have no idea what's going on to cause it to behave like this.

On the other hand, there's my laptop, which is extremely not custom built. It's a Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 ... but it doesn't always go to sleep when I close the lid. Sometimes I close it and half an hour or an hour later, I'll hear the fan spinning like crazy ... shouldn't a closed lid mean sleep mode? The thing that prompted this post was hearing my closed laptop making Discord sounds while someone pinged me while I was accessing it on the PC. Why can't it just go to sleep?

Happy to provide further information as needed, but I'm starting to wonder if Windows 10 itself has some sort of longstanding issues with not handling sleeping well?

Hibernating laptop changes to sleep behaviour after Windows 10 May 2019 update

    Hi Aditya,

Thank you for your reply. I have tried the two steps (turning of Hybrid sleep and Fast startup) you suggested but to no avail. Okay, for your two questions:

    1. My laptop is a HP Pavilion 14-bf101tx, and currently running Windows 10 1903 (upgrading from 1809).
    2. Nope. No error messages. I suppose the boot process was successful, however, my battery was reduced. That's why I suggest the post title as "Hibernating changes to sleep behaviour" because the battery level reduction looks like sleep behaviour.

Please inform me of any diagnostics information you might need. Thank you for your kind assistance.
