Windows 10: Issues with Windows Update

hi, sorry but i really need help, i've been having this issue for months and don't know how to fix it.
I bought sea of thieves last year and i played it for a couple of months until i lost intrest for a bit and left it there for a while.
When i came back, i noticed issues with the updating system and had to unistall and reinstall again, having issues during the download because of it continuosly stopping and having to use an autoclicker to reset it every time.
even after these issues i kept playing because the game ran smoothly.
After this i left it again until a couple of weeks ago when i tried to reinstall it.
When i tried to, the microsoft store gave me an error and kept on doing so until now: the error said that i needed to activate windows update.
I tried running the troubleshooting and nothing changed, it didn't recognize an error, when i go to the windows update options it keeps on loading and doesen't make me see the settings page.
I tried using an microsoft assistant and it doesen't work either, I tried manually updating windows but that doesen't work too: at half the process it stops and gives me an uspecified error.
I know I could reset the computer but I would really hope not because I have a lot of data that I want to keep and because of the fact that i need to do online school i can't afford weeks without a computer.

Came here to suggest this.*Laugh :laugh:

Definitely not an issue with the Windows Servers as I just re-installed yesterday and got all my updates.

It works, but I still need to fix it so that way I dont have to plug computers directly to the modem to get windows update to work. It was also blocking me from installing directx.

If your wireless router has a built in firewall maybe it's somehow set to block the ports that Windows updates use?

I'd also suggest if it works with it being directly connected then you could try resetting your router to see if this fixes the issue.
