Windows 10: How do I get windows 10 after I format my PC given that I am currently running a...

Hey guys,

So let me explain my situation. Back in 2013-14 I bought an already built PC from Cyberpower and it came installed with Windows 8 pro. I never upgraded it and kept using it up until last year, when I tried upgrading to 8.1 after the incessant nagging from windows.

Problem is when I did that my computer started having major issues and since I needed it fixed fast and had pretty much 0 computer knowledge, I called in a local technician. I'm not sure what he did as it was all so long ago and foreign to me, but he got it working again and my files were still there.

When researching now a year later I found about product keys, and the differences between OEM and retail. I am currently on a OEM key, but I don't know if this key came from the technician installing windows again and he had a key on hand, or if it is my original key from cyberpower. My first question is does this matter at all?

Now the other thing is I want to format my PC and have been researching how to go about this(no matter how badly it goes I am determined to go through with it after the preparation needed), and want to run the activated version of windows 10 when I am done. What are the steps I need to take?Can I even upgrade form my current windows 8?

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Installing Windows 10 on New PC?

I'm going to be building a new PC on Christmas and want to install Windows 10 on it. I have Windows 10 on my current PC, which I installed upgrading from 8.1 with the files on a USB. How do I go about installing a clean copy of Windows 10 on this new PC? I think I recall something about installing it once makes Microsoft recognize your hardware, but since this will be a PC I'm not sure what steps I need to take. Do I need to go 8.1 -> 10 or is there a method of going directly to 10?

Run CMD


1. diskpart
2. list disk

Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

2. select disk #
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.
