    Windows Defender closes itself


    Hey everyone!

    The other day, I was trying to download a file that one of my friends sent to me. I downloaded it, but it got instantly deleted by Windows Defender.

    I know that it's not a virus, so I tried to enable it in Windows Defender. the option called "allow on device" The problem is, when I open Protection History, it's loading for a second and it crashes. No error, nothing. It just closes. itself.


    If anyone know the solution to my problem, please tell me as soon as possible.


    I'm using Microsoft Edge by the way, I don't know if it helps or not

    Windows Defender Not Working in Windows 10

    Hi,

    Thank you for using Windows 10.

    Sorry for the delayed reply. I suggest you to Set Windows Defender to Automatic - You can set the Windows Defender service to Automatic, Disabled or Manual. Setting it to automatic might solve the problem. Follow these
    steps:

    • Click Start > type services in the Search box > click Services in the Programs list.
    • Search for Windows defender.
    • Double-click Windows Defender, and click Automatic in the start-up box > click OK.
    Also, follow the below mentioned steps and check:

    • Open the Task manager. Here’s a tip: Press CTRL+Shift+ESC.
    • Click File > Run New Task
    • Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”
    • Type CMD
    • Type the following 2 commands at the CMD prompt:

      dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

      sfc /scannow

    • Close the CMD window

    Hi Ernst,

    To troubleshoot this issue, we suggest that you check the Windows Defender service if it's running. If you are using a third party spyware/malware program, it may disable the Windows Defender service. To do this, please follow the steps below:

    • Press Windows + R key.
    • Type services.msc.
    • Right-click Windows Defender service and click
      Start.

    Let us know the result.
