    Windows Update Error 0x80070002 Win10 20H2


    My Windows 10 seems to be having issues updating. I'm on the insider beta ring, but it refuses to download the 21H1 update or the new experience pack, always giving the 0x80070002 code. It does download an update KB4601554 and says its ready to install on restart but it fails every time too. I've attempted fixing it using DISM and the RestoreHealth trigger, even with sources a .wim and a .esd. I'm running Win10 Education 19042.450

    When in win10:
    • Update&security -> Windows update -> Finding update... .... .... ....
    Planning to download the latest Win10.ISO (vers.1803) and manually update:
    - Then wait that my ordered new SSD arrives and clone the old HDD to it.

    2004 update windows 10 error 0x80070002

    Hello everyone,

    thanks to some of the suggestions here and to some from other sources I have managed to fix the 0x80070002 error breaking up my feature update to 2004.

    For completeness' sake and since it may help others, the following steps worked for me.

    1. Download Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's official website
    2. Create a bootable USB drive with the MCT
    3. Boot up from this USB Drive
    4. Choose install settings, click 'Next', but on the next screen select "Repair your computer" instead of "Install"
    5. Choose "Troubleshoot" -> "Startup Repair" and let it finish
    6. Restart into Windows and attempt the usual Windows update
    It looks like the BCD on my computer had been damaged by the boot loader (Windows 10 + Recovery partition) and running the "Startup Repair" from the installation USB Drive corrected the errors.

    I actually start getting this error with an October update and have been trying to troubleshoot. Here's the details

    Affected Updates:

    October 13, 2020—KB4579311 (OS Build 19041.572)

    Windows 10, version 20H2

    Error 0x80070002

    Attempts to resolve:

    Changed Date and Time settings

    Ran Win10 troubleshooter for updates (states no issue)

    Reset windows update from command line (stop all servcices and restarted)

    Tried d/l'ing and installing updates directly. System completes install to 100% but then message appears stating update wasn't installed

    Looking for some help going forward

    Please assist
