Windows 10: Running security scan on download files with IE or Edge takes too long

[COLOR=rgba0, 0, 0, 1]I'm using a laptop managedby my company. I used it to download files from thrusted repositories of my owncompany. It doesn’t matter how big they are usually a few KB when done fromIE or the upgraded Edge the security scan takes about 6 to 10 minutes. Withchrome takes nothing. I have windows security. I tried a fsc /scannow with no success,I restarted IE and also, I removed it and installed back again, no success. Iremoved the upgraded Edge and with the legacy Edge seems to be fine but stillfails with IE and with upgraded edge if downloaded again. I ask people on mycompany to help me, but they don’t have any success with all they try. Any Help?[/COLOR]

MS Security Essentials + FF4 - Downloads slow

This is the setting in question
browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone;TRUE
Scan files for viruses when they finish downloading. Starting in Firefox 3.7, also apply Windows security policy checks. (Default)

Even if you don't have AV installed it still runs a scan on the completed download because it also applies windows security policies to the downloads.

Depending on your AV, and if you are hopefully downloading and saving rather then running. Your AV, if it has the ability, is going to scan the download stream, scan at the end of the file because FF is going to request it, scan the file when it's written to disk and then scan the file again when you decide to use it.

 

Edge scans downloads with Windows Defender?

Like stated SmartScreen is a feature of Windows Defender and so Windows Defender will be doing the scanning. SmartScreen is like the name suggests is just a theoretical screen that comes into action upon certain triggers. In this case the triggers for SmartScreen for Edge will be mainly downloaded files. When you download something SmartScreen for Edge will spring into action which will call Windows Defender to do the work of scanning. Any necessary action thereafter will be taken by Windows Security depending on the result of the scan.

 

Security attributes for Downloaded files

To disable the Open File Security Warning in all browsers or apps that downloads a file from the internet, follow these steps:

• Press Windows + R to open Run.
• Type inetcpl.cpl and press Enter.
• Adjust the lever to your desired security level (From low to high) and click OK. You can also add trusted sites if your site is not yet on the list.

In addition to the steps above, you can Customize the level of security. Just click Custom level and you can
Enable the app or browser that you want to download files.
