Windows 10: Connect to a hidden network on Win 10 through wifi?

So the way windows 10 works is:


The only way to connect to a network is through the network list.


The way hidden networks work is:


It is hidden so it does not show up in any network lists.


Starting to see the problem here?


I contacted windows customer support about this and their brilliant solutions are:


1. Use Kabel.

2. Try doing a clean install of windows 10 on your computer.


1. is not an option because my router connection is far removed from my room. Am I supposed to drill holes in my ceiling/walls and get two 6 meter kables just so my router can connect through my other appliances that use internet? Can you see why this is not an option??


2. this is not going to magically make the issue go away. The issue being this:


There is no way to connect to a wifi network that does not appear in the network list on windows 10, even if said network is saved as a known network, if it is hidden it will just not show up, and from the known network list there is no "connect to network" option, that option is only available from the regular network list that shows when you open the wifi menu from the taskbar.


Ahhh windows, why, why must you be like this? It's stuff like this that makes me want to jump ship as soon as another OS comes out that is compatible with all my interests like games etc.


Basically just posting this as a correct me if I'm wrong, and boy do I hope I'm wrong! But days of troubleshooting have surely made me very sure of my case.

Hidden wifi


I also am seeing "Hidden Network" in my Wifi list which I never saw before:





What really is this "Hidden Network" and what is it's purpose?? is this someone using my wifi? someone using my connection? Please explain what this is and why I am seeing this on Win 10 when I never saw a "Hidden Network" when I was using Win Vista.

W10H cannot connect to hidden network

I've had no issues connecting to a hidden SSID before, I would assume it is a driver or entry issue. SSID must be EXACTLY as it would be broadcasted, or you will not connect. Sounds like you have that sorted already with your iPhone though.

Have you tried this solution for adding a hidden network to Windows 10?

Seems pretty odd, not much out there..one MS article states to try older WiFi drivers and for some reason to install updated keyboard drivers (LOL). I'd try the 380.63 driver as you said you haven't yet and report back when you can.

I just checked with my work laptop, a Lenovo Carbon X1 2016, and it connects to Win 10 hidden SSID's just fine... 2.4 and 5.0GHz networks, N and AC. I have an Intel AC-8620 though...

Wifi Hidden Network

Hi,

Win 10 doesn't connect to my hidden network. It shows as a Hidden Network in the available networks list and i have to select it and manually enter the SSiD and password each time. These are getting added to known network list with number appended such as
HiNetwork, HiNetwork 2, HiNetwork 3, but again doesn't connect. Adding the network after deleting all these entries also isnt helping. Just have to enter the SSiD and the password each time!!
