Windows 10: disable web suggestions for windows 10 search

hello.

i am frusterated at the fact that whenever i type in the search bar i get web results in addition to computer results. I don't want web results at all. I have looked into the solutions provided on other forums, but they all seem to be out of date, as the most recent update changes the format so that the settings to control this are no longer in the position they used to be.

while i can reach some cortana settings, the only things i can turn off are the very things i want to keep (searching my computer for files).

i don't care if the solution breaks another feature; i don't care for most windows 10 features anyways, so it wouldn't be a loss. i just really, REALLY don't want to see any bing results, or anything else related to the internet. that's what a search engine is for. it slows my search down and I never have used them since windows 10 installed itself, so the "feature" might as well be malware for all i'm concerned, and i want it treated as such.

i have similar feelings toward windows 10 updater, but i've long since given up on my attempts to corrupt that part of the software so it doesn't work and i don't have to deal with it taking up hours of valuable work time (which has cost me dearly over the years).

Disable Web Search Results in Windows 10 Start Menu

Disabling web results in the search box depends on the version and build of your Windows 10. We suggest checking the Windows 10 version and build installed on your computer. To check the version and build, follow the steps below:

• On Cortana search, type winver and press
  Enter.
• A pop-up box will appear containing the version and build of your operating system.

Meanwhile, you can try these steps on how to disable web results in the search box:

• Click the search box in the taskbar.

Since the steps above did not work for you, we suggest that you disable web search by navigating the settings of Cortana itself. Please follow the steps below:

• Open the search box in the taskbar.
• Click the Notebook icon.

• On the Settings page, turn off the Cortana can give me suggestions, ideas, reminders, alerts and more option.

To be able to disable the Web Search when using the searchbox, you need to turn off Cortana. The searchbox will now say "Search Windows" instead of "Ask me anything." It will be more responsive and only show results from your hard drive or local network. To
do this, you can follow the steps below:

• Login to Windows 10 computer with your Microsoft account.
• Click on Cortana search bar.
• In the search box at the bottom, type Disable Cortana.
• Once the suggestions appear in the list, click Cortana & Search settings.
• Then turn off Cortana option.
