Windows 10: Enabling Discrete Device Assignment on Windows 10

Hello,


I've been experimenting with different versions of Windows 10, and I am almost ready to buy a license, but unfortunately there is one major problem that is a showstopper for me. For my work, I need to be able to pass through physical devices to a linux-based HyperV virtual machine. Microsoft calls this feature DDA or Discrete Device Assignment, and as far as I can tell it is only supported on Server editions of Windows. Unfortunately it is not viable for me to use Server as my main workstation OS. Dual-booting with it is also not an option.


Is there any way to somehow enable this feature on Windows 10 with some sort of registry/group policy hack? Or perhaps is it possible to move the feature from a Server installation over to a Win10 installation so I can use it?


My main goal is to pass through a PCI device a USB3.1 controller/root hub to a linux-based virtual machine. GPU passthrough would certainly be useful in the future, but right now it's not as important as the root hub.


DDA seems like a mature technology at this point, so I think it should be included in Pro, or at least in Enterprise/Pro for Workstation. Linux can already to this out of the box and it's a free operating system.


Currently this is the only thing that's holding me back from getting a proper license for Windows 10, and I would really appreciate it if someone form the Server or HyperV teams could point me in the right direction and show me how I can enable the feature.

Re-enable audio device

Hi,

I would be happy to assist you.

Before we proceed with troubleshooting, I would need little information on the issue.

• Are using speakers / head phones to listen to audio?

If you have disabled the audio device, then you might not see it under the list of playback devices. I would suggest you to follow these steps to make sure you see the disabled devices:

    Open
    Control panel.
    
  • 
    Click Hardware and Sound and then Click on
    Sounds.
    
  • 
    Under Playback tab, right click on the empty area and make sure
    “Show Disabled Devices” has a check mark on it. If headphones/Speakers are disabled, it will now show up in the list.
    
  • 
    Right click on the device and
    Enable it. Click OK.
    

If the issue still persists, try enabling speakers automatically using steps below.

  Go to Settings> Click on themes> Advance sound settings> right click on the speakers or the audio device youo have connected > click on
  Configure device.
  
• 
  Test the sound level you want, click Next.
  
• 
  And configure the audio devices.

Creative X-Fi Soundcards and Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 1709 = Complete Disaster / Not Working

Thank you for trying to help , i did tried your suggestion but it did not work :/ , nothing seems to make it work on Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 1709. In the meantime i have bought a new SoundBlasterX AE-5 and it did installed flawlessly , no problems whatsoever. it is up to Creative ( drivers ) and Microsoft ( bug fix ) to fix this huge bugs with Audio.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
