  1. autounattend.xml vs. EL.cfg + PID.txt

First time using an autounattend.xml file with a Windows 10 install. In the past, I've always installed Windows 10 manually but did automate the entering of three pieces of info during the install using EL.cfg and PID.txt. These two files would feed the installation the following info automatically: Edition (Enterprise), Channel (Volume), VL (1), and Product Key (MAK key from VLSC). When I was done with the install, I had Windows 10 Enterprise fully activated with our MAK VL product key.

Now that I'm using autoattend.xml to automate some other parts of the installation process, what happens with EL.cfg and PID.txt. If I still provide that information via those two files, are they still used? or are they ignored because I'm using the XML file? Does the XML file necessitate the need to provide that same info within that file? Are those two files ignored when you use XML? Or can I still use those the same way I have been? I know the XML file can provide some/all of that info. Please advise (and thanks in advance).

Getting different file icons for XML and TXT

    Hi,
Does anyone know if there's a way in Win 10 to get different icons associated with file types that are tied together, such as xml and txt?

I've tried setting a new icon for either xml/txt using Nirsoft FileTypesMan, but (as the the software points out) they're tied together, and changing one changes the other too. (FileTypesMan points out "Notice - Changing the properties of this file type may affect the following extensions: .txt, .xml")

Also tried setting DefaultIcon for xmlfile in regedit, but to no avail. Clearing icon cache afterwards also doesn't seem to matter.

So is there a way to do this, or to break the connection between xml-txt?

Did I miss something obvious? Any ideas?

Windows 10 autounattend xml installation problem

Hi guys, I have a problem with autounattend XML install. Basically, I have a Windows image that is downloaded from MS and edited to skip all steps for setup. The windows boots and wipe the hard drive created partitions, select language, and created one admin account with the password. The image work when I test it on a laptop and everything seems fine. The image is not working on Virtual box or Hyper- V, when it's, starts on the parts that create partitions I received that error:
windows could not create a partition on disk 0 the error occurred while applaying the auto unnatednd asnwer file's < DiskConffiguration>Setting. Error code: 0x80042565 . The main issue is that I set up a TFTP server and crated WinPE to boot from the samba server where the image is so that I can boot it from the network. When I tested the image from the server it's finding the image and start the setup but I receive the same error with the creation of the partitions like on a virtual machine. With a flash drive, it works I don't know what might be the problem if someone has an idea?

Windows 10 autounattend xml installation problem

    Ok, that's a good start.

Your answer file is made for a Gen 2 Hyper-V. It won't work on Gen 1.

Verify the settings I have outlined in the image below:

NOTE: I have not looked at the answer file in detail. If you are still having difficulty, I'll look closer, but for now, time for sleep. It's 0500 here *Smile
