Recent Windows Update prevents my pc from recognizing DVDs

Since the newest Windows 10 Feature & quality updates installed on my pc, the optical drive won't recognize that a DVD has been placed in the drive. Whether it is Windows media player or Movies & TV app. I added the drive folder to M&T app and that did not fix problem. Prior to this 20H2 Windows update it worked beautifully. My Desktop is a decade old but there was no reason to replace. It was perfectly usable for my needs. I recently acquired the annual required purchase to use Office 365.

Oh the days of buying Microsoft Office products that were yours and updated freely for eternity are gone. Maybe someone could offer us Security & Quality updates for small fees that won't render older working PCs useless. It might be advantageous to go this route for customers suffering Covid-19 and families relying on these devices for work and school and much needed entertainment and relief from cabin fever.

Now it is my understanding that with the frequently required security updates needed to protect copywrite of DVD & CD companies we might have to pay the price of purchasing accessories or giving up basic computer functions that we previously paid to enjoy. This is how it has been explained to me today. Please correct me if the information I was given is inaccurate.

I am asking that Microsoft or the companies' security they are protecting please develop a driver that will install to your customers pcs & laptops so that we can use our working equipment already on our devices. Please spare us the cost if you would. One of my laptops that is even older but has the old free version of Windows DVD installed and is still working fine, took several hours to try and download the same new Windows update. Only to take several more hours to display that it was undoing changes made to the device by the update. One notification that displayed was that registry changes to the folder containing commands to the DVD player were Blocked. Thankfully. I haven't tried this one yet but I hope it is still working. I kept this old but still working laptop to play DVDs for my Grandchildren. It was the first device they learned to use on their own before they entered preschool and prior to owning their own tablets. They learned to search the web and watch episodes of Paw Patrol. My point being is I get that we need the best security to protect all of us. Can't the brilliant minds out there do this with out putting our working machines out of use. Please if there is such a fix I would appreciate it being included in a near future Update. I have already gone to the device manufacturer's website. They have a "Windows 10" box saying to go to Microsoft website or you can click on it and it will take you there. I guess they feel their products were working until someone else made changes to render them useless. I am feeling like a ping pong ball. For all the hours of frustration and time spent trying everything and reading everything that might help resolve these issues, I would like to say it is better to be straight forward and save customers a huge amount of time by telling us what could or would be effected if we decided to update or pass on ever getting anymore security updates for our computing devices again. At least we will make and informed decision and save us hours, days and weeks as it has turned out this round of updates trying to find remedies to what we are trying to find out happened to our devices. Does anyone know a fix driver for tsspCorp Super WriteMaster SpeedPlus CDDVDW SH-222BB that will enable the DVD player now and ensure future security and quality updates. Thank you. Please help if possible.

    :)

  2. CD/DVD not being recognized on PC

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are facing issues with using CD/DVD drive on your PC. For further clarity on the issue, please respond to the questions below:

    1. Are you aware of any changes made to the PC prior to which you weren’t facing this issue?
    2. Have you tried using the CD’s/DVD’s on any other PC?
    3. Does the issue occurs with specific discs or all the discs?

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to refer the article
Optical Disk Drive is unable to read/recognize a disc
by Dell and see if that helps.

Note: Please don’t follow the suggestions in Step 10.

    Note:
Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS
settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

Note: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow
these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

Follow the steps to take backup
    of registry

    CD/DVD drive not recognized

---I'm okay with opening latops. I've opened this one 3 times, adding SSD HD and upgrading RAM. I'll be able to try this later on, Friday, probably. With it spinning up when a CD is inserted, I'm not sure this would help. I'd appreciate advice on this.
