  1. How exactly does Sync Settings for Windows devices work?


    My situation is that I only have the one device..a laptop. I only use a Microsoft Account and dont wish to set up a Local Account at all, so when clean installing the OS, as soon as Windows set up has completed, the first thing I do before making any changes is to go into Settings/Account/Sync Settings and turn off the Sync toggle. I have always thought that this ensures that no personal settings are saved in the cloud. Is my thinking correct here ..OR.. Do settings such as the WiFi network password and Desktop wallpaper theme get synced to the cloud automatically anyway because Windows turns on Syncing by default and these settings will be synced before I get the chance to turn off the Sync toggle.
    If so..Do you guys just leave the Sync toggle On and not worry about it..even if you only have one Windows device signed in with a Microsoft Account?

    I suggest you to Turn off the Language preference and Ease of access Sync settings and check if it helps. You may follow the steps below and check if it helps:

    • Press Windows key and then type Sync your settings.
    • Turn off language preference and ease of access.

    Cant sync settings in Windows 10

    Hi,

    To help you better please help us with the below information.

    • Did you make any recent software/hardware changes on your computer?
    • Have you signed in to your computer using Microsoft account?
    • Is the sync settings is greyed out in the settings Windows?
    As an initial step I would suggest you sign out of Microsoft account and sign in again, see if the issue is resolved.

    Also install all the pending updates on your system and check if it helps.

    Windows settings, passwords, etc. do not sync from device to device

    I'm having Windows sync issues that seem to be tied to my Microsoft Account. I've read a number of support articles and followed troubleshooting steps that lead me to believe it may be an issue with my Microsoft Account.

    The problems are:

    • Windows settings do not sync
    • Favorites/bookmarks, Reading List, and passwords do not sync in Edge
    • I have tried to disconnect other services from my account (LinkedIn and Twitter) but I still have some of those contacts appear on some devices, and they cannot be deleted (I would like these services/accounts disconnected
      from my Microsoft Account)
    More detail:

    • The devices include 2 Windows 10 laptops and a Windows 10 Mobile phone (the devices are not joined to a domain, but an Office 365 account ("Work Account") is used on the devices. I sign in with my Microsoft Account on all
      devices
    • My Office 365 account (Small Business plan, a "Work Account") might be connected to the Microsoft Account in some way but I can’t find a way to check
    • I use both Edge and IE in Windows 10
    • My Outlook.com account has been upgraded to the "new" Outlook.com
    Troubleshooting and steps I have tried:

    • I have run the Microsoft Account Troubleshooter multiple times on both laptops and on different network connections (home, Starbucks, etc.) and get the following results: Can’t Connect to the Sync Service (I have verified a good
      internet connection), and Some Settings Have Sync Turned Off (I have verified all Windows 10 sync settings are turned on)
    • I have removed the Office 365 account from devices (which did not fix the problems)
    • I have done a clean install of Windows 10 on both laptops, using my Microsoft Account only and not connecting any other accounts, and I have also created a local account and then switched it to a Microsoft Account (all did not
      fix the problems)
