  1. Can somebody see if I’ve opened a file on a shared drive?

    Hi,

I was looking for a file in a coworkers folder in our companys shared drive, and saw a file related to $$ shouldn’t have been saved there anyway

Curiousity got the better of me and I clicked into the PDF but as an Adobe pop up came up to say it wanted to load from our server, accept or decline, I had second thoughts and hit cancel.

My concern is, my Adobe reader still brought it into my recent files despite me never fully loading it, and on the properties tab in our Windows shared folder, the last accessed date has updated. Last modified has not so they would have to actually click into the file properties to see last accessed.

My question is, will this user be able to know it was me who opened the file? I have read about Windows file auditing but my understanding is that auditing needs to be enabled before?
If they were to enable auditing in say a months time, would they be able to see it was me?

    Thanks.

    :)

  2. cannot open files on network shared drive

Is the remote shared folder mapped? Do you have a drive letter assigned to it?
I'd suggest calling the software developer and asking them.

  3. cannot open files on network shared drive

we use kitchen design software, and store all the drawings on a separate computer (sort of like a server, as it also hosts our quickbooks company files). I have enabled all available permission settings, and i still have an issue. the program saves the drawings as *.kit files, which can be opened by double clicking them. the only way to open the file is to drag and drop it to the desktop, and then it opens. is there any way to set something up where i can double click the file in the shared folder to open the drawing? when i double click the file on the shared folder, the design program opens up but it does not load the drawing. so would this be an issue with the program, or the shared folder?

Can somebody see if I’ve opened a file on a shared drive?

cannot open files on network shared drive

I have used a small handful of applications that just won't open a \\host\share\file.ext

Annoying, but there may be a workaround, try mapping the share to a drive letter:

In Explorer, Tools > Map network drive...

Can somebody see if I’ve opened a file on a shared drive? map-network-drive-1.png

Then choose an unused drive letter, and the shared folder.

Can somebody see if I’ve opened a file on a shared drive? map-network-drive-2097.png

This will work for most programs as it'll see K:\kitchen.kit
