  1. Read/Write Folder inside Read only folder

Look, I'm trying to make Remote Storage by sharing a folder in this case is "networkDrive", the root. Hosted by mapping network drive.Inside the folder, there are 2 folders:viewed using the mapped network driveThe "networkDrive" folder is supposed to be read only - meaning you cant change anything inside the folder e.g. renaming, creating or editing - but I'm trying to change the perm settings of "userShared" to have write permissions and it's not working. This is what happens if I try to create the file inside userShared:Someone please help me!

    :)

  2. Read only folder

    Hi Jim,

We appreciate you for being part of Windows 10.

Before proceeding, we need more information to help you better.

    • Do you want to change the permissions to certain program/folder?

    • Have you signed in through Microsoft/Local account?

A read-only file is protected from accidental deletion and changes to its content.

Step 1: What is a read-only file or folder?

A read-only file is protected from accidental deletion and changes to its content. To change a file to read-only, right-click the file, and then click
Properties. In the Properties dialog box, click the
General tab, and then select the
Read-only check box. To make changes to a read-only file, clear the
Read-only check box, or save the file with a different name.

Step 2: Prevent changes to a file or folder (read-only)

Setting your important or personal files to read-only can help protect them from unintentional or unauthorized changes. When a file is set to read-only, it cannot be changed.

    • Right-click the file or folder you want to set to read-only, and then click
      Properties.
    • Click the General tab, select the Read-only check box, and then click
      OK.
If you need to make changes to the file or folder later, you can turn off the read-only setting by clearing the
    Read-only check box.

I hope the above information helps. Kindly let us know if you need any further assistance with this issue. We are glad to assist you.

    Thank you.

    Understanding Read-only folders

    Keith,

Thanks for your reply! So I've been experimenting with permissions now instead but still can't get the results I want. If I deny write, that works but only one way. It seems to still let me delete or remove a file from the folder but it won't let me
add a file. If I deny read, well that doesn't work because then I can't even open the folder. I still want to be able to see its contents but just not be able to remove, delete, or add to the folder. I've been trying various checkbox combinations and not
quite getting there. The only options I seem to have are Full Control, Modify, Read&Execute, List folder contents, Read, Write. Honestly it seems like anything other than denying write, will not let me see the folder. But only denying write still allows
you to modify the folder to some extent by either removing files or deleting. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions?

    thanks!

Read/Write Folder inside Read only folder

    read only in a folder

I recently upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. My folders seem to now be write protected. How can I change the folder attributes from read only to read/write so that I can add files to these folders?
