Suddenly can't rename files in Explorer

About two weeks ago I started to notice that I sometimes can't rename files in Explorer. I would try to alter a filename like "datafile.txt" to "Datafile.txt" but upon hitting the return key it would revert to the original name.If I change the name to "Ddatafile.txt", hit return, then go back and delete the second "d" the name would change to what I wanted. How to get regular name-changing back to Windows Explorer?

    :)

Microsoft Internet Explorer renamed to Windows Internet Explorer ?

Since version 7 of the world`s most popular web browser - Microsoft Internet Explorer was silently renamed to Windows Internet Explorer.Such a step from Microsoft is not a surprise since Internet Explorer is part of the Windows operation system for a long time.Obviously Microsoft corp. wants to state that Internet Explorer is already considered as a part of Windows and not as an external browser (remember the IE and WMP law issues last year!?).

  3. Trouble renaming photos and files

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

    - Are you using Photo app to rename the photos?

    - Did you try renaming the photos directly from File explorer?

    - Do you get any message?

I suggest you to rename photos from File Explorer and check if it helps:

Follow the steps to rename photo from File Explorer:

    1. Right click on the start menu and select File Explorer.

    2. Click on pictures present on the left side of the page.

    3. Right on the picture you want to rename and select the option rename.

Help us with more information to assist you further.

Suddenly can't rename files in Explorer

    Renaming files

Suddenly I can not rename a file...Word, Excel, anything including PDFs. I right click and either list closes and disappears or I get a message that Microsoft has stopped working. I have to open the file, then Save As giving it a new name and then go
in an delete the previous version with the name I no longer want. Just started happening about 2 weeks ago. Does not matter if I am working in the program file list, like Word, or if I'm using the File Explorer. Did a recent update mess this up?
