Sum of folder size in C Windows drive is not totaling the overall used space size.

In my C drive when I select all my files and select Properties it gives me the total size as 150 GB.However in Explorer when I right click the C drive it tells meUsed Space- 247GB There are a few threads similar to this on the forums, mostly from a few years ago and I have tried those steps->Hidden folders are set to viewable>Disk clean up done- including deleting Windows update clean up and Error dump files.>System restore partition has been set to 2%10GB of my volume and is currently taking 568MB.Any suggestions ?

    :)

  2. Discrepancy between 'Used Space' on C drive and total of actual folders/files

According to 'Properties' in Windows Explorer, my C drive (one of four partitions on my primary drive) has 296GB 'Used Space' and 272GB 'Free Space', giving a total partition size of 568GB. However, if I add up the total space occupied by all the folders
and files on C drive that are listed in Windows Explorer they come to roughly 44GB. (The largest folder is Windows (19.5GB), followed by Users (9GB) and Program Files (5.8GB). The rest of the folders are smaller than this.). Nearly all my applications, data,
photos, videos, backups etc are on the other three partitions on the primary hard drive or on a secondary internal hard drive.

Can anyone suggest what accounts for the HUGE discrepancy between the reported 'Used Space' and the total of the actual folders/files? I first noticed this when backing up my C drive using Acronis TrueImage, which yields a back up file of 218GB - presumably
the 296GB with some compression. A few months back I recall that the Acronis backup files were sized at around 60-70GB, so there's something funny going on! If there is some giant folder or file that is lurking on my C drive, what could it be and why isn't
it showing up in Windows Explorer?

  3. Properties reporting used space MUCH more than the sum of the folder properties sizes.

SSD C: shows a "used" size of ~90 GB and the sum of the file folders used size is less than 30 GB - including hidden folders. What is going on?

    Extend C drive Size

Your Image does not show a D partition. It does show an F partition which if reduced in size would enable you to increase the size of the C partition.

These are the steps needed to enable you to increase the size of your C partition:

    • Reduce F by 20 gb placing the unallocated space before F.

    • Increase the Recovery partition by 20 gb taking up unallocated space created by Step 1.

    • Reduce the Recovery partition by 20 gb placing the unallocated space before the Recovery partition.

    • Increase the C partition by 20 gb to take in the unallocated space before the Recovery partition.

You can use Easeus Partition Manager (freeware) to carry out these tasks. The files in each partition are automatically moved when you carry out each step detailed above.
