Windows 10: I bought windows 10 home edition and activated it 6 years ago, the license upgraded by itself

Six years ago, when I bought a new laptop, I also bought a windows 10 home edition and activated it on the new computer. Suddenly, 2 days ago, I get a windows pop-up telling me that my license was going to expire soon. I check the settings to see what is means because I know that it can't expire, I bought it the license for my personal computer and nowhere did it tell me that it was going to expire. In the settings I found out that my license has upgraded itself to windows 10 pro, at the activation section saying "Windows is activated using your organization's activation service". I logged i

Windows 10 upgrade license

The interesting question is that: the upgrade takes place before 29 of July. If I upgrade the PC (change the MB), and I transfer the Win 8.1 license to this new PC (cause 8.1 is retail FPP), will I be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free? Or a upgrade license must be bought?

I'll revert back to windows 7 then.

When I still was on windows 7, about a year ago I added 4GB extra ram which is a total of 8GB now,
is that causing the problem?

 

Windows 10 upgrade license

Hello guys,

I have 1 license of WIndows 8.1 FPP/retail license. I want to upgrade to WIndows 10, but I one thing is unclear to me.
If I upgrade, will WIndows 10 license be retail or it will "turn" into some sort of OEM license?

I ask this because I upgrade my PC, you know, more memory, replace HDD, and I intend to upgrade the MB and CPU to Kaby Lake platform sometime in the future, (and of course sell the replaced hardware)
This thing is not clearly mentioned anywhere.
