Windows 10: not recognizing external hdd after updating to windows insider program

devicewd elements 25a2 2tb doesn't show in windows explorer, shows on device manager, and it says that the device is "working properly", and that the driver is the newest. but the driver date in disk management shows as 6/21/2006I tried looking for it in disk management, but I got the following error - "you must initialize a disk before logical disk manager can access it".it has a lot of important data, and initializing/formatting is not an option.any suggestions?PS. it was working just fine before windows insider update, so it's probably no related to the hardware in any way

It would be grateful if you can reply to this question in order to assist you further.

1. Is the issue persists with the particular External hard drive?

2. What is the make and model of your External Hard drive?

I would suggest you to update the chipset drivers from the manufacture’s website and check if it helps.

You can update drivers from the
Device Manager.

Follow the steps to update drivers from the
Device Manager:

• 
  Right click on Start button, type
  Device Manager and Enter.
  
• 
  Find the drivers which needs to be installed and also see if there are any warning symbols. If yes update the drivers.
  
• 
  Right click and click on
  Properties, and go to Driver tab and click on Update driver.
  

If the issue still persists, try to install drivers in Compatibility mode and check.

Refer the steps:

a. Download the Drive from the manufacture’s website, Right click on the setup file and select Properties. b. Click the compatibility tab, tick the box next to Run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows.

Windows 10 Anniversary update problems, not recognizing external hdd

I have three externals attached to my Windows 10 Build 14393.82 desktop (just now attached my new Toshiba Canvio 2TB) and all three are visible for me. I have a WD Passport 500GB, an older Toshiba Ext 500GB and the new Toshiba Canvio 2TB.

The desktop is an HP 500-056 with a 500GB SSD inside.

I haven't done anything differently than upgrading and using the computer.

I just updated to OS build 14393.82, and the problem continues, my external HDD still shows up as RAW. I have a Toshiba Canvio Basics 3.0 external HDD.
