Windows 10: Photo folders and most pictures are showing the microsoft photo icon.

The folders in my pictures file and on One Drive are showing the blue icon with the mountain and moon of the Microsoft photo app. The folder does not display the pictures until I open the folder. And then sometimes the pictures are the Microsoft photo app icon,. Once I open the icon the picture is there.I've looked at the other posts with similar issues and tried everything that was supposed to fix this and it still does not work.It's frustrating to have to open all the folders when I'm looking for specific pictures.

Photo Icons in the Picture Folders

Hi,

Misconfigured view settings is on of the usual reasons why it is not displaying the actual photo. We suggest checking the settings of your folder to make sure it show the icons, instead of the thumbnail. Kindly follow the steps below to check it:

• Open Picture folder.
• Choose View tab at the top, then click the (Square icon) Options as shown on the picture below:
  
  
• Click View tab, put a check mark on the box beside the
  Always show icons, never thumbnails. See picture below:
  
  
  
• Close the folder, and check if you will be able to see the display picture for each icon.

Folder Photos: Showing Thumbnail Photos Rather Than IrfanView Icons ?

Open File Explorer > top right, click Options > click Change folder and search options > click View at top > UN-check the box " Always show icons, never thumbnails" > OK when done.

 

Stop Microsoft Photos from opening downloaded photos

Are you referring to the pictures in Windows photos app??

If yes, you can proceed with the following steps.

You can exclude the pictures showing in the Downloads folder from the Microsoft Photos app, by following the below steps.

1. Launch the Microsoft Photos app.
   
2. Click on the ellipse icon >
   Settings.
   
3. Under Sources, click on
   X mark next to Downloads folder.
   

Microsoft Photos app will not display the downloaded pictures.
