This is SO fast that there is no need to go outside of Windows 10 built-in backup utility "sdclt" from Run prompt. You WON'T NEED incrementals. You can back everything up full and trash the previous backups. It's THAT FAST.Quite simple;Get a 12Gbps SAS-capable storage controller installed in your PC. I have a Broadcom/Avago/LSI MR-9361-8i MegaRaid controller.Get a 12Gbps SAS drive for your backup drive. Install it in your system with a caddy or similar. You'll need the appropriate cable from your storage controller, Mine is a SFF-8643SAS/SATA controller end to SFF-8482SAS driv

  3. Windows 10: fails backup to system image

I have the same problem and have not yet been able to do a Windows 10 System Image backup. I use an external hard drive to backup, and have followed all the chkdsk, sfc, defrag protocols - even before it was suggested here. I even switched to a different
removable hard drive and still cannot backup via Windows 10. Although 10 gives the appearance of having completed a backup, there are no files on the hard drive, and then I get a message after a while saying that the backup failed.

However, I can backup using the old Windows 7 protocols. If you enter "backup" in the search feature on the start menu, you will find (or at least I did) an option for "backup and restore Windows 7. It backed up as it would for the the old Windows 7.

What I don't know is whether, if I had to restore, how it would affect the system (i.e. restore system to Windows 7 configuration or Windows 10 config.) I don't know if the option from the search bar just refers to the method of backup; 7 versus 10 method
of backing up, or whether it backs up in 7 configuration. I figure any system image and backup is preferable to none, but then I am not all that knowledgeable about the intricacies of the OS.

I would also like an option to backup on a time frame I choose, not one Microsoft does. With 7, I could backup once a week, which is sufficient for me, as important things are backed elsewhere up at time of usage. The maximum backup interval with 10 is 1
day. At least provide larger optional increments of time between backups.

    System images and backups.

    Hi Arthur,

Thanks for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

As per your query, I like to inform you that; if a copy of C drive on any external storage media/system partition cannot be used for system recovery purposes. You need to create System image backup using File history.

To create system image on Windows 10 follow the below methods.

    • Type File history in the search area on the taskbar and select File history.

    • Click on System image backup on the left bottom corner of the Window file history Window.

    • Click on Create System Image on the left panel of the System Image backup windows.

    • Select the driver, where you want to Create system Image.

    • Follow on screen instruction.

Hope it helps, reply to us with the status of your issue. We will be happy to assist you.
