    Cannot update or reinstall OneNote


    I run Windows 10 on a Dell Inspiron laptop. I was trying to update OneNote when I got a "0x800706D9" error message, which I looked up online. As a result, I checked the Storage, Windows Update, and Windows Firewall services; the first two were set as "Automatic Delayed," while the Windows Firewall Service was not listed. I tried uninstalling OneNote but could not reinstall it; I got the same error "0x800706D9" as before. Can anyone suggest how I should proceed? Thank you. I may have posted about this before; if so, I beg your pardon.

    I mistakenly uninstalled OneNote...

    How do I reinstall it?

    I can't find it in the store or in my apps list.

    Send to onenote

    Hi,

    It may be an issue with the add ins in OneNote, we suggest that you disable OneNote add-on and enable it. To do so, follow the steps below:

    • Open Internet Explorer.
    • Click Manage add-ons.
    • On the left pane, click Toolbars and Extensions.
    • On the right hand side of the page check for Send to OneNote add-on. Highlight
      Send to OneNote and click on disable.
    • Once the add-on is disabled highlight the add-on again and enable it.
    Note: To enable the File menu in Internet Explorer press the
    Alt     key on your keyboard.

    You may also perform an online repair in Office 2007, to do an Online repair, follow the steps below:

    • Press Windows + X.
    • Click Control Panel.
    • Click Programs and Features.
    • Right click Microsoft Office, click Change.
    • Choose Online repair.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions.

    Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

    Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.
