Updates being applied even though they are being paused for 7 days through Windows Update

Hello. I'm facing an issue where cumulative & security updates are being applied to my system when I restart Windows, even though I've paused them for a week through the Windows Update setting. Background: I've heard some weird stories about cumulative updates screwing things up, so I tend to pause them for a week until some bugs are fixed. If I need to restart my system for any reason, however, the updates that were paused will be applied to the system without any warning or notification beforehand. There is no "update and restart" option in the power menu at all, just the usual shutdown,

    :)

Pause Updates For 7 Days ?????

    Windows 10 Pro v. 2004

I have been investigating my new install of windows and have noticed in the Updates area ….
Pause Updates for 7 more days …

I tried to go into the advanced options area to change it but am faced with a list of dates on menu and regardless of what I choose the phrase Pause Updates for 7 more days … persists.

What is up with that ?

  3. option: pause update windows update for 7 days'

Since an update from windows 10 v. 1803 to 1909 I note the above option listed in update settings page. Why is a pause necessary? One moment the information on update status shows the updates are all installed yet another moment it shows that updates
are on 'pause'. I did not add this option to updates. I am unsure how long the 'pause updates' option has been listed on the update settings page. Shall I leave it set at 7 days' pause or remove that option?

option: pause update windows update for 7 days'

Martmcd, Thank you for your very helpful reply. I shall use your last bit of advice to leave it along and it will go away. the only problem I see is there is nothing that allows me to remove or keep the pause choice. The options shown in the box begin
with 7 days and only increase the number of days, not eliminate the pause. However, I shall simply ignore it, as you so wisely suggest. Thanks again.
