Windows 10: Installing another win 10 because lost of password

I bought a computer for someone and forgot the log on and password. If I buy another win 10 operating cd/usb will it erase this hard drive and let me start over?I have a windows 10 that I cant get past the start up screen.. says owner no name and asks for the password.. Lost My Administrator Password

To which "this" are you referring?
- If you are following the tutorial Bree suggested in the very first reply to your question then what you need to do at each step is explained in detail. So which step are you at?
- If you are following a different procedure then state what it is and which step you are at. If, for example, you are trying to manually enable the Built-In Admin as suggested in post #11 then that account has no password.

You can try the following to see if it helps you recover your password:

If you are not able to recover your password, its best off you reinstall Windows 10.

Go to a working computer, download, create a bootable copy, then perform a custom install.

You will be able to recover your files from Windows.old using the custom install option:

I suggest you to perform the startup repair using the Windows 10 installation media from the eblow link and check if it helps.

Download Windows 10

Boot from the Windows 10 installation media and then perform automatic repair and check if it helps.

Follow the steps to perform Automatic repair:

• Insert installation media and restart the computer.
• Select language and click on Next.
• Select Repair your Computer and click on Skip this drive.
• Select Troubleshoot and click on Advanced Options.
• Here choose the option Automatic Repair and follow the prompted instructions.
