I have a USB + HDMI KVM https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VXCPTR9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1&pldnSite=1 connected to two different Windows 10 PCs both Microsoft Surface Pro computers - a 4 and a 7. I had an old monitor HP w2207 connected to the KVM using an HDMI to DVI cable, and had a max resolution of 1680x1050. I finally got a new monitor HP E243, but the computers are both "remembering" the old monitor i.e., they think the w2207 is still plugged in.I unplugged the KVM and connected the monitor directly to each PC in turn. They each immediately reco

    KVM switch with win 10

I don't think it is Windows 10 caused the issues but the design concept of the KVM switches with those cases. I had using ConnectPRO Plus serial KVM switches with Windows 10 systems for a long time, and I never experienced the resolutions resizing issues.

Most of KVM switches in market are designed with emulation-base technology in devices sharing including for sharing the monitor, so when the more advanced OS, like Windows 10, is upgraded to those emulation-base KVM switch will have difficult in emulating
/fitting the timing to the systems upgrade to Windows 10 which monitoring the I/O hot-plug and connected devices' status all the time.

I don't like to give suggestion of just changing the KVM switch and find a KVM switch based on DDM technology, but looks like there is no other solution then using more advanced KVM switches based on the DDM technology (Dynamic Device Mapping). Of you
may want to using an EDID emulator putting it between each connected PC/system and your old KVM switch to keep feeding the EDID of your monitor to the Windows 10 PC/system.

Windows 10 issue with multiple monitors and KVM

It looks like the KVM switch with your configuration did not get correct EDID communication successfully between the shared monitor and connected Win 7 / Win 10 systems , OR sometimes it did and sometimes it did not.

According to Windows 7 or Windows 10, KVM hardware design guideline, a KVM switch must can keep feeding the shared monitor's EDID information to all connected PC/ systems no matter which connected system is under selection as working switching target system.

In one sentence, the KVM switch you have may not meet the all-time full EDID emulation / feeding to connected system, so the connected system created a device hot-plug error (system error log) when you switch/ select to other systems.

I don't know which video format of you monitor/ KVM switch, you should have no problem to find right model of KVM switches equipped with all-time full EDID emulation technology.

Windows 10 issue with multiple monitors and KVM

I have a personal laptop and a work laptop. I use the built in LCD screens on the laptops as the main screen for each.

I also have an external monitor that I share between the two laptops with a KVM switch. So, whichever computer is selected by the KVM has the external monitor as a secondary display.

However, when I switch the external monitor from my personal laptop to the work laptop, everything that was being displayed on the external screen for the personal laptop is transferred to the main screen of the personal laptop. This means that when I switch
back to the personal laptop I have to move the programs I want displayed on the external monitor back to the external monitor. Is there some setting that I can change so that when I switch from the personal laptop to the work laptop it doesn't move the programs
displayed on the extended monitor back to the main display?

I also noticed when I click the KVM to switch over, the extended monitor disappears from the displays list. The only option for now is to click the button behind the monitor to switch between displays which can be troublesome.

    Thanks for any help!
