How do I change the default installation directory to B drive?

Hi.I'm using windows 10 64 bitSo, I divide my partition into 2 drives. C drive, 105 GB, exclusively for Windows, and B drive, for any other thingsI had already moved desktop, document, download, etc to B drive.my next problem is I would want the default installation directory to go to B drive, instead of manually assigning the installation directory there. I try to change via settings and registry, but to no avail. It's only changed the program shortcut directory, but whenever I install a new program, the default still C driveDoes anybody know what to do next?

    :)

  2. Change default drive: How do I change the default drive that my system will install programs on?

    Hi Ed,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. I understand the inconvenience caused to you and will assist you in solving the issue.

In order to change the default installation directory, please change the following in the registry.

    • Press Windows key + X, type regedit and press Enter.
    • Locate the following: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
    • Right click on the value named ProgramFilesDir & change the default value
C:\Program Files to the path you want to install all your programs in.
    • Click OK and Exit.

Windows, by default, will now install your programs in the new drive or path.

Note: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur
if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back

    Changing Default Program Download Directory

About a week ago I was researching how to change my default app download directory, because my SSD was getting low on storage, and I had an almost empty hard drive. To complete this task I went into regedit and followed the instructions on a forum to change
the directory to a folder on my hard drive that I named "Programs". Everything was going smoothly, and the apps I test downloaded went into the folder on my hard drive. Then, when my computer notified me that there was a windows update available, I restarted
and went through the whole procedure to update my PC. At the end of the restart and installation though, I was given a message. I think it was something like "Windows update failed, undoing changes". After a bit more research, I found that if you change your
directory, for windows updates, windows tries to download these updates onto the new directory, but when the update saw that there were no windows files present in my new download directory on my hard drive, it didn't update anything (I think this is why the
update failed). I didn't want to mess with anything else on my computer, so I simply changed the default download directory back to the "Program Files" folder on my C: drive, by using regedit again.

    Anywase,

How can I change the default download directory for programs that are installed through .exe files without messing with windows and its updates?

    Thanks in advance,

    -Johnny
