SECURITY ALERT PURPORTEDLY FROM WINDOWS SECURITY

I just clicked on a link to a gardening article in BING when a blue-screen - all over the monitor - appeared telling me my pc had been compromised, "Windows Defender" was showing me a telephone link and I was advised to get an engineer straight away. Now, I have the paid version of AVG, and it comes out in attack mode against any intruder. No show. Being unable to click on the Taskbar, I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del to close FIREFOX and did all the AVG searches. I didn't dare go back to this link, so I can't tell you anything more about it except the telephone number was toll-free USA. This is really for

    :)

    If you must have AVG...

Here is the comparison list --> We’ve got the right protection for you

Seems the AVG Premium Security 2014 is the better deal; as, it has all the features of the other, plus Identity Alert, Quick Tune and Premium Mobile Security.

Windows 8 Secure Boot Feature: Not So Secure?

    • Linux
    • Linux
    • Linux
    • Linux
    • Oh and OSX
Here is a statement from a Kernal Developer at Red Hat:

I'm not sure this exploits the legacy BIOS but rather it exploits the legacy boot method on MBR drives, injecting a signed key before the OS boots, which you are correct in that it has nothing to do with Windows 8. And the simplest fix would just be to require boot drives use GPT when Secure Boot is enabled in UEFI.
