  1. Windows 10 taking WAY TOO LONG TO RESTORE.

Recently at about 4:00 PM today I went to restore my windows 10 laptop and its been going for so long now. posted at almost 11:00 PM currently at 54 percent and im going up 1 percent every 8 minutes or so. I have to go to bed and I dont want to wake up in the middle of the night to Cortana screaming at me. Can someone please tell me a why to safely turn off my computer and continue the installation tomorrow?

Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect

In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.
    1. Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
    2. Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
    3. click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination

    4. Proceed to restore then Shutdown and disconnect the old HD and replace with the new HD
    5. Boot up with your new HD.

  3. PC taking way to long to restore

    Hi,

Thank you for posting you query in Microsoft Community.

We understand your concern and will certainly help you to get your query resolved.

Method 1: Try to boot into
    Safe Mode with Networking

To enter into Safe Mode in Windows 10, follow the steps given below.

    • Restart your PC.

    • Press Shift + F8 before the Windows logo appears.

    • Click See Advanced Repair Options.

    • Click Troubleshoot.

    • Click Advanced Options.

    • Click Windows Startup Settings.

    • Click Restart.

    • You then see a list where you can choose
Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking (depending on whether you think you’ll need the Internet).

After your PC restarts, select a startup setting by pressing the corresponding number.

As System, restore is stuck for 24 hours I suggest you to boot to Safe mode with Networking and Run Microsoft security scanner.

Microsoft Safety Scanner Download - Windows security.

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

If the issue persist try method 2

Method 2: Perform start up repair from Windows Recovery Environment.

To get to Windows Startup Settings in the Windows Recovery Environment. Follow these instructions to get to the Windows Recovery Environment.

    1) Start your computer from the installation media, Insert the DVD or USB flash drive and restart your computer, If you see a message asking you to “Press any key to boot from DVD,” do so. If you don’t see the message, you might need to change the boot order
in your computer's BIOS settings so that it first starts from the DVD or USB. When you see the Install Windows page, tap or click Repair your computer to start the Windows Recovery Environment.

    2) In the Windows Recovery Environment, on the Choose an option screen, tap or click Troubleshoot.

    3) Tap or click, advanced options and then click on Startup repair.

After this complete the repair and see if you are able to boot in to your computer.

If you don't have a disk or USB, download the ISO from a working computer and try creating a bootable disk or USB.

    Windows 10 ISO file Download:

Hope this helps. If the issue remains unresolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help.

Windows 10 taking WAY TOO LONG TO RESTORE.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
