Windows 10: Windows 11: Optional January update KB5022360 is now available

The new update KB5022360 with various bug fixes and a changed handling of .NET updates is available for Windows 11 version 22H2. The installation is optional, and most Windows 11 users may want to skip the installation. Windows 11 devices affected by issues that are fixed by KB5022360 may benefit from the installation though.

KB5022360 raises the OS build to 22621.1194 and contains various bug fixes. The optional update addresses issues with Windows Search, a game controller issue, and issues that cause certain apps to stop responding.

Windows administrators may install it by selecting the download & install option on the Windows Update page in the Settings app.

Windows Search functionality suffered from several bugs, which the update resolves. The update fixes an issue with searchindexer.exe, which prevented users from signing in or out on the Windows 11 device. It furthermore addresses an issue that excluded file contents from searches, and an issue that prevented the opening of pictures in search on the taskbar.

Another key area of improvements addresses several hangs and related issues in Windows 11. Here is the full list of what is fixed in the release:

The update fixes a deadlock in COM+ applications.

A conhost.exe issue that caused it to stop responding is fixed by the update.

KB5022360 fixes an issue in mstsc.exe that caused it to stop responding "while connecting to a RemoteApp and Desktop connection".

The update addresses an issue that caused Windows Server 2022 domain controller to stop responding when processing Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) requests.

Another issue affected devices with Microsoft Exploit Protection Export Address Filtering (EAF); it could cause some apps to stop responding or not opening.

KB5022360 addresses a nonpaged pool leak and a high nonpaged pool usage in the Resilient File System.

There is also one functional change. It affects .Net Framework preview updates. After installation of this update, all future .NET Framework preview updates are listed under Optional Updates in the Settings application. These optional updates may be managed from that location. The full page is Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates.

Windows 11 administrators may check all other changes on the Microsoft Support website.

The included fixes will be part of the February 2023 Patch Day on February 14, 2023. Unless affected by at least one of the issues in a major way, Windows users may want to skip the installation of the preview update.

Fix: Power Options Missing after Windows 10 Creators Update | Driver Talent

Method 1.

Run SFC /Scannow to Fix Power Options Missing Issue on Windows 10 Creators Update

The power option missing or not working error in Windows 10 Creators
Update could also be caused by corrupt or missing system files. To
rule out that possibility, you could run the SFC command (System File
Checker) to repair the problematic system files and retrieve the power
options. Below is how:

Press Win + X to select Command Prompt (Admin).

Type sfc /scannow and then hit Enter. (Make sure to put a space between “sfc” and the slash.)

Type powercfg –restoredefaultschemes after the sfc /scannow command completes and then hit Enter.

Type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and hit Enter.

Reboot your computer after the process finishes and then try the Sleep, Shut down, or restart option in the power menu to check whether
the power options are available now.

Method 2.

Tweak Group Policy Editor to Resolve Windows 10 No Power Options Available after Creators Update

If running the SFC commands fails to fix the futile power options in
Windows 10, try the Group Policy Editor tweak as below tutorials.
Before the registry tweak, you’d better backup your registry first in
case of any further system issues like blue screen, black screen with
cursor, Windows Hello not working etc.

Go to Search, type gpedit.msc to open Group Policy Editor.

Navigate to the following path:

User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Start Menu and Taskbar

Double-click on "Remove and Prevent Access to the Shut Down command".

Select “Not Configured” or “Disabled” and then click Apply.

Close the Group Policy Editor and then try the power options menu to see if the sleep/hibernate/restart option functions now.

Pro Tip：

If you are a Windows 10 Home user, the Group Policy Editor is not
available. But you can run regedit to open the Registry Editor and
then follow the below path to find the missing power options back:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Ensure that a value named NoClose exists with a value of 0.

Reboot your computer and check whether the Power Options missing bug
gets fixed.

Method 3.

Add User Rights in the Local Security Settings to Get the Missing Power Options Back

Add User Rights in the Local Security Policy is also said helpfully to
repair the power options malfunction:

Press Win + R keys and type: secpol.msc and then hit Enter to open the Local Security Policy.

Go to: Security Settings –> Local Policies –> User Rights Assignment –> Shut down the system.

Choose Properties and then Add Users or Group to add your user id or group.

Once the new user or group has been added, click OK to save changes.

Sign out and Restart your computer.

Sign in and then you should find the Restart & Shutdown options are available.
