Windows 10: What's causing the same VC++ Runtime Library error popup on bootup?

Since "patch Tuesday's" update two weeks ago, every time I boot up my Windows 10 computer, the following error popup show up in the middle of my screen.Any ideas what's causing it? No changes to my system other than the update. Never saw it before.Thanks.

Error: Missing VCRUNTIME140.dll: Which VC++ Redistributable year ?

When I run a certain program an error popup appears:

Error 'The application was unable to load a required component VCRUNTIME140.dll'

I guess a Microsoft VC++ Redistributable library (version 1.40) is missing.
But which exactly?
As far as I know VC++ Runtime are labelled by year e.g.

Microsoft Visual C++ 2019 X64 Minimum Runtime

Is there a table showing VCRUNTIME-Version -to-Visual C++ Year equivalents?

Which library bitness is required 64bit or 32bit?

I found an all-in-one Package for ALL VC++ Redistributables.

But where can I download single runtimes?

Method 1:

If the issue is caused due to missing Visual C++ libraries, you may download and install the Runtime components of Visual C++ libraries from the link below.

This error may occur when the Microsoft .NET Framework installation on the computer is damaged or is missing.



We suggest you to manually download and install Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Update Redistributable Package and check if the issue persists.

Method 2:


If the issue persists you can place the computer in a Clean Boot and check if it helps.

Putting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.

vc++ runtime redistributable problem

I have a new Windows 10 laptop, and I am trying to install a game from Origin. I get the following message - Error: The VC++ runtime redistributable package was not installed successfully. Setup cannot continue (1602). I have tried a variety of solutions,
including downloading the vc++ package directly from Microsoft, but I am unable to even do that. I have read that I can try deleting existing vc++ files and then reinstalling, but when I go to Programs and Features I do not see any Visual C++ Redistributable
files listed. Please let me know what to try next.
