  1. WHEA-Logger & Kernel-Power Critical Fatal Error

Hi there,I had for some time sporadic crashes, some even without blue screen. Recently, I even had a green screen followed by a reboot. So I decided to look into it and noticed a lot of error in the event log and even some Kernel Power error. Therefore, I followed some instrucitons I found here and run the "Driver Verifier" following the instructions at the link below.https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/driver-verifier-tracking-down-a-mis-behaving/f5cb4faf-556b-4b6d-95b3-c48669e4c983With "Driver Verifier", I always had the same blue screen at the startup with the following info

  2. WHEA-Logger Error and Kernel-Power Critical

    Hello,

I have recently encountered repeated BSoDs and crashes during high resource use activities (such as gaming, streaming, or mining).

When a BSoD occurs, it has the code WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR.

The system log in the event viewer lists Event 46 WHEA-Logger as the issue with the following description:

A fatal hardware error has occurred.

    Component: Memory

    Error Source: Machine Check Exception

The details view of this entry contains further information.

I also notice that just a couple of seconds before I have a critical Kernel-Power ID 41 event with the following description:

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

I have run MemTest86 as well as Windows Memory Diagnostic and neither test returned any errors. I have not experienced any issues with booting or stability issues other than when I'm gaming and performing another high-resource task as mentioned above. The BIOS settings are all default. The hardware I am running is as follows:

Motherboard: Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero ATX AM4 Motherboard

    CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 3.7 GHz 12-Core Processor

GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 10GB 10 GB FTW3 ULTRA GAMING Video Card

    RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory

PSU: EVGA GQ 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply

Storage: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive

Some of the tasks I have already completed based off of other discussions I have seen:

    • I disabled any overclocks on CPU and GPU.
    • Reset BIOS to default settings.
    • Disabled XMP profile in BIOS.
    • Updated drivers.
    • Monitored temperatures during crashes and did not notice anything too high.
    • Updated BIOS.

  3. WHEA-Logger Error and Kernel-Power Critical

    Hi Charlie,

I'm Paul and I'm here to help you with your concern.

WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR means that a fatal hardware error has occurred.

The minidump file points to "AuthenticAMD.sys" which is the AMD CPU driver.

Anyway, Kernel-Power ID 41 is mostly caused by PSU. You can see from the links below that other users fixed the issue by replacing the PSU.

    WHEA-Logger & Kernel-Power Critical Fatal Error

Many problems: Kernel Power 41, WHEA on processor, SSD not detected

Wanted to update in case anyone is having similar problems: The CPU was failing. RMA'd the chip and now the kernel power errors (/power cycling), BSODs and WHEA logger errors have stopped. Thanks all.
