Windows 10: game in fullscreen resolution change to 4k

Hi, I connect my laptop to an external monitor using HDMI cable. Both laptop and external monitor resolution is set to 1920x1080 with 120hz refresh rate on the external monitor. Currently I'm using the external monitor as the main display.The problem is whenever I opened some game in fullscreen mode the external monitor resolution automatically changed to 4k@30hz, while on borderless window mode the resolution stayed the same on 1920x1080@120hz. Some games that changed the resolution such as Apex Legends and Monster Hunter World, while game like Hades didn't affect the resolution on fullscreen

The problem is whenever I opened some game in fullscreen mode the external monitor resolution automatically changed to 4k@30hz, while on borderless window mode the resolution stayed the same on 1920x1080@120hz. Some games that changed the resolution such as Apex Legends and Monster Hunter World, while game like Hades didn't affect the resolution on fullscreen mode.

Another thing that I noticed is that on the resolution option for the external monitor, there are options for resolution higher than 1920x1080 while my external monitor resolution maxed at 1920x1080.

Is there any way to prevent the fullscreen game to change my monitor resolution? Or is there any way to disable the option for resolution higher than 1920x1080 in the display settings?

Resolution Changes when I get into fullscreen on games

Depending on the game settings they can change the screen resolution and color depth etc

Some old games cannot reach 4K so I have to play them at lower resolutions

Windows can reset the display when the game quits

 

W10 Fullscreen Gaming at 1440p/120Hz problem

Hello
I have W10 PC and 4k display. It natively supports 1440p/120Hz freesync.
If i change resolution to 1440p, desktop changes to 1440p and upscaling to 4k/60Hz
Then i manually change refresh rate to 120Hz and its fine... This is working for desktop and borderless games. Games without borderless or refreshrate option are stuck at 60Hz with upscaling. If i run it windowed and modifiy borders FreeSync doesnt work. Display doesnt even support 1440p/60hz.

Any fix for this ? Anyway to make 120hz preffered or only res for 1440p ?
